Newborn Found with Pacifier Taped in Mouth, Nursery Shutdown

Thursday, September 27, 2007

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — A 4-month-old boy was found in a darkened room at a day care center with a pacifier taped into his mouth, the Tennessee Department of Human Services announced Wednesday.

The department responded Tuesday to an anonymous complaint that a caregiver at Noah's Ark Nursery and Preschool in Jefferson City was taping babies' mouths shut.

Upon arrival, an investigator heard muffled whining from the bathroom and found the boy's mouth covered with two pieces of two-inch-wide clear packing tape over a pacifier, department spokeswoman Michelle Mowery Johnson said.

The center was served with a suspension order from DHS and was closed Wednesday. A hearing was set for Thursday before an administrative judge.

Nursery owner Kim Trentham, who has run the daycare since 1993, did not answer repeated calls to the center or her home.

According to the suspension order, caretaker Angela Day Gentry told police the taping incident had occurred before, and that placing the tape on the child was a "mutual" idea between herself and Kim Ball, the other caretaker in the room.

1. This is the reason I want to stay at home and raise my babies...
I hate the choices we are forced to make... turning over our precious cargo to imbeciles. Absolutely disgusting.

3. Remeber that story in June about the mother who did that
and her baby died and she was hauled off to jail?

******************
LAKE STEVENS, Wash. — A woman was charged with manslaughter in the death of her 4-month-old son after she told authorities she taped a pacifier to his mouth to keep it from falling out.

Bonnie M. Desmond, 19, was charged Tuesday in the death of Noah James Petersen. Bail was set at $500,000.

Desmond called 911 Monday and said her baby was unconscious, but paramedics found the boy had been dead for hours, Fire District 8 Deputy Chief David Lingenfelter said. Prosecutors wrote in reports that Desmond later indicated a pacifier had been taped to the child's mouth but she had removed it before calling authorities.

"The only thing I can think of is I taped the pacifier to keep it from falling out. I didn't know it would hurt him, or I wouldn't have done that," Desmond told police, according to the reports.

No other children live in the home, which she shares with her fiance, and the fiance was not under investigation, said police Cmdr. Dan Lorentzen. The autopsy results were not immediately released.
If convicted, Desmond faces 6 1/2 to 8 1/2 years in prison, Snohomish County Deputy Prosecutor Mark Roe said.

4. Kennels
This country used to have a standard of living where one spouse could work so the other could successfully nuture and raise the family. Now we have a standard of living that requires both parents (if the kids are lucky enough to have two) to work at least one job each, unless they have very lucrative professional jobs such as attorney or physicians. Most parents are required to put their pre-K children in what is essentially a kennel.

This while our politicians spout off the BS the USA is the greatest country in the world and the rich need more.

The USA was the greatest country but that was pre Vietnam War.
