Consumption of All Types Of Alcohol Increase Breast Cancer Risk

Economic Report: Consumption of All Types Of Alcohol Increase Breast Cancer Risk - 09/28/07

Economic Report:

By Jesse Russell

A new study has found that all types of alcohol increase the risk of breast cancer. The study showed that it is the amount of wine, not the type, and that means women who consume vast amounts of wine are as at risk as women who consume hard liquor. More than 70,000 women were studied in the study by Kaiser Permanente Medical Care. Women who drank one or two drinks a day increased their chances of breast cancer over women who drank none by 10 percent.

1. Study shows that turning a key in an auto ignition can get you killed.
I will be damned if fear of health risks is going to run any part of my life.

3. And, "vast" amounts of wine, huh? Who are these women?
Edited on Thu Sep-27-07 07:23 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
Well, at least they're taking their HRT's to protect them from heart disease and osteoporosis, oh wait, I forgot post menopausal HRT's CAUSE cancer which was discovered in another study.

I am just waiting, the day will come, when sunscreen products will be determined to increase one's chance of skin cancer more than the sun.

Anyway :toast: MKJ

on edit, took away the extra "s", just like the WH official transcript

12. Sunscreen products DO increase one's chances of skin cancer. Sun exposure decreases colon, breast
and prostate cancer. I guess you can stop waiting.

17. I couldn't find any definite
However, I found there is speculation that the ingredients in sunscreen mimic estrogen thus increasing breast cancers and that LACK of the old Sunshine vitamin D is a problem and that prostrate death was higher in northern countries-they also mentioned this on my news tonight.

But this~

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20070428.wxvitamin28/BNStory/specialScienceandHealth/home

But perhaps the biggest bombshell about vitamin D's effects is about to go off. In June, U.S. researchers will announce the first direct link between cancer prevention and the sunshine vitamin. Their results are nothing short of astounding.

A four-year clinical trial involving 1,200 women found those taking the vitamin had about a 60-per-cent reduction in cancer incidence, compared with those who didn't take it, a drop so large — twice the impact on cancer attributed to smoking — it almost looks like a typographical error.

Fascinating. Once again-moderation being burnt and tanning all day long-bad. No sun-bad too.

5. this theory has flip-flopped
SO many times over the past 10 years or so.

wait two weeks, there'll be another study that touts wine's health benefits for BC.

besides, look at the source of the study. believe me, if i were diagnosed with BC, Kaiser would NOT be who i wanted to rely on for proper treatment. i think they're just looking for another reason to turn claims down. "oh, you have BC? had any wine in the past 10 years? too bad, no treatment for you, our study shows you knowingly brought it on."

Heart disease kills more women annually than all cancers combined

and

Moderate drinking lowers heart attack risk in women

The key is moderation which as you KNOW these crazy broads can't be trusted with.

10. My sister rarely, if at all, drinks alcohol and she had breast cancer.
She's cured now. They caught it early, thank the higher power.

19. There certainly is a lot of conflicting information....
I suppose we have to make our choices based partly on whatever genetic risk factors we might have. Heart disease seems to be more of a problem in my family than cancer, so I guess I'll stick with a glass (or two....) of wine or beer. :)

Now, if only we would start getting snow during the winter up here in MN (global warming?), I could cross-country ski and get my vitamin D as well.

9. Using charcoal in your BBQ grill increases your chances of cancer.
http://www.lifebridgehealth.org/body.cfm?id=3521">Test Your Cancer Knowledge

As it turns out, you can increase your cancer risk if you overuse your barbecue.
Research shows grilling and broiling meat creates cancer-causing substances, but the
idea is still a theory. The best advice is to choose a diet full of vegetables, fruits
and whole grains. Even if you eat charbroiled burgers and hotdogs all summer long, the
risk of a typical person dying of cancer has declined steadily since the early 1990s.
More than half of the people diagnosed with cancer today will be cured.

And despite what you may have seen or read in the news, available evidence does not show
cell phones to be a cause of cancer.

11. A ten percent increase is totally meaningless on an individual level.
A difference that small -- increasing an already small chance by 1/10th -- will only really show up when dealing demographically.
