Where are all of the faux-outraged "He gassed his own people!" GOP pundits on Burma? |
|
They trotted Chalabi out as some kind of freedom fighter, but most haven't even heard of a true pro-democracy advocate like Aung San Suu Kyi. Will the rightwing get mad at the crimes of the Myanmar junta 20+years after the fact, like they did with Saddam? Oh sure, Bush has paid lip service to the situation, but don't expect anything to be done. There's no oil there, so who cares. Besides, a lot of U.S. companies do business with the dictators through foriegn subsidaries. Why screw that up? Coddling dictators works with China, thanks to Bush I and Clinton. Why end a sweetheart deal?
Take a stroll threough Free Republic. Do a search for Myanmar. The threads get little to no replies-those that are on there are usually along the lines of "Where is this?" You'd think as morally-upright as these folks were on invading Iraq, they'd be following the situation in Burma by the second.
