Raw Story: 'Half-naked' gay leathermen prompt Catholic beer boycott
Fox: Gay 'sexfest' ad prompts Catholic beer boycott
David Edwards
Published: Thursday September 27, 2007

http://rawstory.com//news/2007/Fox_Gay_sexfest_ad_prompts_Catholic_0927.html

William Donahue of the Catholic League told Fox news on Thursday that his organization plans to call for a boycott of Miller Beer over an advertisement for a gay block party in San Francisco. The ad, which includes a scene of a gay leather bar arranged as a parody of Da Vinci's "Last Supper," has previously been featured by Fox as an "attack on Christianity."

Donahue was particularly offended that "the money is going to go in part to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a notoriously anti-Catholic group."

"Miller doesn't know what they're in for," Donahue concluded. Journalist Fred Kerr responded that "boycotts like this that have happened in the past have failed."

"No, I had one with WalMart two years ago, buddy," Donahue interrupted.

38. Amen to that.
However, Miller (who is owned by a South African company now) does own the Leinenkugel's brand, which is still independently operated by the Leinenkugel family in Wisconsin. Their beer is still good.

4. I totally read that headline wrong
I thought it said "'Half-naked' gay leathermen prompt Catholic bear boycott"

Which is messed up, because I think if William Donahue had a bear to love him, he wouldn't be nearly so uptight.

17. Seems like he spent an awful long time
with that ad.

I think it's funny. For the record, they're satirizing a painting, itself representational art. Donohue is acting like they are satirizing a newsreel from Dachau.

How can you NOT love heretical zombies? And besides, this is what Catholics do, isn't it? Eat and drink of the body and blood of Christ? At least they use napkins... ;)

I'm not GLBT, but I believe the same things the spirited and well-spoken Sister Roma believes:

Why did you join?(the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence)
"I joined to make a difference. I joined to fight for and defend my innate human rights, as well as the rights of everyone on the planet, regardless of sex, age, color, race, religion, sexual orientation or choice of peanut butter. I joined to raise money for the fight against AIDS. I joined to spread universal joy and expiate stigmatic guilt. I joined to reach out to people and to help them understand and love themselves, and ultimately, each other."

Religious beliefs? (if any)
"I believe in spirituality, love, compassion, understanding and respect. I believe there's more to life than what we experience here and when we die a lot of questions will be answered. Until then, follow your heart, your mind and your soul."

26. I don't know what's funnier about this
The ad itself or that Bill Donahue knows anything at all about art.

One thing's for sure. He's fascinated by anal sex.

Sounds like the sort of person who might be spotted in the ad looking longingly at the party through a distant window...
