IF your first choice were eliminated today, WHO would be your SECOND CHOICE for Dem Nomination?
It is important for a Candidate's campaign to know 'where the votes are likely to go' as candidates drop out of the race for the Democratic Nomination.

IT is all about putting together a winning coalition.

So if your first choice were eliminated today, Who would be your second choice and get your vote?

In order to make this useful you should indicate your first choice and second choice.

Let's see where we stand at DU.

3. I have been avoiding this question.
It looks like I had better start thinking about it. Because the chances are good that the time will come when I need to know more.

I'm a Kucinich voter now. It's a shame Gravel is so demonized. He's actually a very good candidate. But you know, "the scream", "the army tank", "Willy Horton", "invented the internet"... I think I'm an anybody but Hillary voter. But that's being lazy. I have to narrow it down. I like Biden, but there are some details I have forgotten about. Perhaps important ones.

That's not a very good reply. But it's where I am at right now.

4. Thats Why Some Are Blissfully Uncommitted
I couldn't tell you a second choice, since I don't have a first one. I'm very much in wait and see mode and will determine which way I go in the days leading up to the local primary. To this point, the presidential race is a popularity contest...the real battles are being faced by Democrats in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina. Millions of Democrats will be voting in those primaries and many have spent a great deal of time learning and meeting the candidates and the issues. I want to see what they determine.

Bottom line is I stand with the Democratic party as being the best hope for restoring sanity to this country. Any of the candidates is far preferable to any Repugnican, PERIOD. Those who don't agree are welcome to vote for Rudy or Mittens or whomever or do so by supporting a thrid party or not voting at all.

Right now I'm more interested in the Congressional races...supporting Progressive candidates to challenge blue dogs and booosh-lickers (like Lipinski and Bean here in Illinois), then onto the general...building a better and strong party for elections to come.

11. The way early primaries are being compacted, we may have a different scenario this time...
Given that there won't be much time between Iowa and SuperTuesday, and so many delegates voted on in that time period, we may have many more candidates keeping their name in the running longer rather than dropping out after one or two stops.

Instead of 2 or 3 candidates running after N.H. and S.C. we could have 4-6 still running --continuing to split the vote, and diluting head to head campaigning that makes the decisionmaking process easier.

12. Clinton first, then Richardson, Dodd, Kucinich
in that order. After that it would be Biden then Obama or Edwards, and I wouldn't feel cheated or unrepresented. I just saw Obama in Washington Square. He spoke well but it sounded like they were words at a rally, not leadership potential based on experience. Too many women (and men for that matter) gushing over his good looks. That was pretty obnoxious and weird to me. There was nothing he said I disagreed with, just that I don't think he knows how to get where he speaks about. Many people there said Obama voted against going to war with Iraq after 9/11.

I'm mainly focusing on the House and Senate, which should be getting way more money and attention than the Presidency right now anyway. We should also be focusing on state legislatures and Governors.

15. This is an especially pertinent question because Edwards is, for now, my 1st choice.
Unfortunately, I think that he will, at some point, be forced to drop out.

I can't see how he can continue given Elizabeth's prognosis. I hope she'll beat cancer and that the entire Edwards family will end up in the White House.

If that doesn't happen my second choice is Obama.

18. its like picking your favorite rash,
I guess my first choice is Obama and my second choice is Richardson, but that support is as soft as it gets.

I really don't think any of the 2008 canidates, democrat or republican are that great - with most of them simply being terrible. I will not support Hillary Clinton in any form.

33. That really shocked the heck out of me.

I have been leaning Obama. In part because I agree with his statement that Washington experience does NOT equate to international experience. But the whole, "we can't get out of Iraq right away" meme is pure Washington-not-World experience talking.

Britain: takes over much of North Africa and the Middle East after WW-I and WW-II. Pulls out shortly after WW-II. Rare target by Islamic terrorists.

France: takes over much of North Africa and the Middle East after WW-I and WW-II. Becomes single most frequent target of Islamic terrorist attacks outside the Middle East. Finally pulls up stakes decades later. Islamic terrorist attacks in France come to abrupt halt.

United States: establishes first long-term presence in the Middle East in 1991. Suffers first Islamic terrorist attack outside the Middle East in 1993. Coincidence?

It seems pretty obvious to me. The single biggest question concerning the WAR ON TERROR is, "why did we not exit the Middle East following the war for Kuwait?"
