Washington Times headline today: Gay Protection tacked to Defense
Spending Bill. Unbelievable. How about calling it a hate crimes bill. That was the top banner headline on the paper when I passed a newstand.

Gay protection tacked onto defense bill
By S.A. Miller
September 28, 2007
The Democrat-led Senate yesterday adopted legislation giving homosexuals additional protections under federal hate-crime laws, attaching the measure to the defense authorization bill and daring President Bush to veto it as promised.

"The president of the United States has never vetoed, in the history of the United States, a defense authorization bill," said Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat and chief sponsor of the amendment. "For this reason and for many others ... the defense authorization deserves to be passed ."

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said the measure only served to jeopardize the entire bill, including military pay raises, funds for wounded veterans and other popular programs.

"Do we want to protect the defense policy matters in this bill that actually matter to our forces in the field, or do we want to debate political and social issues on this measure?" the Kentucky Republican said in floor debate before the votes.

2. Let's Tack On More...
How about all those bills passed in the House that have been fillibustered by McConnell...let's attach 'em all...prescription health care relief, tuition assistance, workers right to organize and the many other bills that passed the House that have been sitting in limbo. Every time asshat wants more money for his war for profit, he's either going to have to allow these measures that have majority support go through or veto his own funding and then defend it.

McConnell is quite a work...since it was his corrupt party that already has shit upon the military and their families...defeating previous attempts at pay raises and cutting funds to the VA (a major cause for the Walter Reed mess earlier this year). Then there's the Webb ammendment, that obviously, according to the GOOP, only is for "phony soldiers".

I'm sure at the Moonie Times, they see a war on gays as a part of their overall "war on terror".

3. Very True. For a minute, I pictured condoms attached to the defense bill
as "gay protection".

Gay protection means staying out of airport bathrooms

I like the idea of having condoms attached to the defense bills cause then at least we'll be protected when it's rammed up our...well you get the idea.

Cheers...
