Wicked! I May Register Republican During the Cal Primaries and Vote for Ron Paul to Upset the GOP
Edited on Fri Sep-28-07 11:29 AM by David Zephyr
Since I will be content with any of our Democratic candidates this time around, a group of my friends got to talking and are thinking about registering temporarily as Republican to vote for Ron Paul in the GOP primary.

Wouldn't that be a hoot if Ron Paul got to their convention with a lot of delegates?

In New Hampshire it is legal for voters to cross over and vote in either primary, so it might happen there early on, too.

Don't know if I could live even for a few months with the "R" by my name, but I'm feeling a little wicked right now.

Should I vote in the primary for Ron Paul?

6. It's a shame when you have to go back that far
to find some good that the Republicans had done ...

7. Teddy Roosevelt started the National Parks system
so you only have to go 100 years back, not 150

19. no he didn't
Yosemite and Yellowstone (the 1st national park in the world)are both 19th century creations, so the parks themselves began before TR. TR was more associated with the expansion of the forest reserve system and federal funding for hydrological programs, though he did oversee the creation of some new parks. The actual parks system, as an administrative unit in the Interior department, began under Wilson. Stephen Mather was the first director.

3. For 14 years I voted in every Texas Republican Primary
It was a true pleasure to vote against "native son" GWB. Back then John McCain was so crazy, either, so it wasn't entirely painful. Of course, I loved seeing another vote against Gov Bush in his home state.

4. You are a wicked person, too. Would you be voting for Ron Paul?
Imagine if Paul had 10% to 20% of the delegates at their crappy convention...that would be a hoot.

13. That is a tough one
Not if Paul actually stood a chance of stealing the primary. Then again, a strong showing in Tejas might give him a push to run as an indie - that would siphon votes from the Rethugs ala Ross P. Geeez, tough year, glad I no longer have to make that decision. Besides, I then always used to get a Republican stamp on my voter ID and I really hated that. Ah, my misspent youth.

Have fun!

16. I'm hoping he might run as the Libertarian choice
You know they must already be working on him.

It would only happen if he has a strong enough showing, but if he were to do that the Republican vote would be split to hell.

5. Some (but not enough) here in PA tried that to get a certifiable wing-nut
onto the ballot instead of Magic bullet Arlen. In states that are late in the primary season, it is not a bad idea.

You can actually have an impact on local races if enough people do this. Yeah, it's a dirty trick, but so what? All's fair, especially these days.

8. I've done it several times here in Texas.
My county is so red, there are lots of offices where there isn't any Democrat running at all, much less more than one running in a primary. Our primary is held so late it hasn't had any effect on determining the presidential candidate. So, I vote Republican and vote against all the incumbents. If there are write-in opportunities, I vote for Paper Ballots.

14. As have I
If we would have gotten our primary moved up to Super Tuesday as proposed, I would for sure have voted in the Dem primary. As it is now I think it's March 4th or 5th. I'll see how things are as we near that point, but if it's locked up I may cast a ballot for Ron Paul to help shake up the Republicans.

If the signs I'm seeing are any indication, he's going to have a strong showing in my county.

12. Being I believe that the corporatists who put BushCo in the White House...
...aren’t going to give up that easily. They’re obviously stacking the deck with a pro-lobbyist corporate sweetheart like Hillary. ....So, maybe it could be a good idea for us to try to stack the deck with candidates who want to end the war and talk about the criminal actions of our White House.

..But, personally, I would stay a registered democrat and vote for Kucinich.

17. We did that to Bush in '00
Michigan does not make you declare your party to vote in the primaries. So during the 2000 campaign when Gov Engler promised Michigan to Bush in the primary Dems turned out for the Rep primary in droves and voted for McCain. I remember standing in line at the Rep voting poll and talking to people around me. Dems out numbered Reps standing in line. It was kind of hilarious. We handed the Rep nomination to McCain and pissed off Engler. Fun for all.

18. I've Done That In The Past...
In '88, I lived in an area where there was virtually no Democratic party. The Repugnican primary WAS the election. It also enabled me to call myself an Independent. IRC, I think I voted for Pat Robertson in that primary.

I have no problem with those that cross over if their primary vote means little for the Democrats and don't make it a habit in November. But then if I were to do that next year, I wouldn't vote for Ron Paul...I'd be a Tancredo supporter or Dunkin Donuts Lemon Chicken Hunter. The more un-electable the better.

Cheers...

20. It'd give you a chance to vote for a candidate thats pledged to have zero troops in Iraq by 2013
Whether your love or hate his views, you have to respect how he's not afraid to voice an opposing view in front of a hostile audience without any concern of damage control.

It's something I never considered before, but now I think the left should put the fear of god into the mainstream Dem candidates.
