Poll question: How vitally important is it to decide today whether or not you are going to vote for the Democratic
Nominee? Given that the election is more than a year away?

1. Thank you. I've been trying to figure out whether or not I should post something like this.
BATSHIT annoying. I'm waiting and watching and reading and learning. Thank you for posting this so I didn't have to (oh, it's just U.P., up to another poll, ho hum). Thank you.

5. That's just not true.
And I'm suspicious of anyone demanding a loyalty oath.

13. "Demanding a loyalty oath"
No one is demanding anything. Even if they were, you're free to choose to do and say whatever you want. That's the nice thing about the ability to think for yourself.

15. "That's the nice thing about the ability to think for yourself."
Which is what authoritarians don't want you to do, even if they use phraseology that seems reasonable.

23. "No one is demanding anything."
That's disingenuous or sadly ignorant. And I know that I'm free to do and say whatever I want, I'm exercising that freedom.

28. You said you were exactly disengenuous when you said no one is demanding anything...?
Edited on Fri Sep-28-07 03:24 PM by porphyrian
...or you said you were exactly sadly ignorant, which? As for the other quote, of course you said it, that's what my second sentence was in response to. Were my words too big for you?

Edit: omitted an "o"

33. Thanks for missing the point. Would you like to try again?
What part of "Even if they were" could you not understand? While you're busy being condescending, I suggest that you work on your reading comprehension.

The point is this: who gives a shit what anyone else WANTS you to do?

Who cares? Really, who gives a fuck?

Hence, "Even if they were...."

Think for yourself. Make your own decisions.

34. Oh, so you project as well.
My comprehension is just fine, and it's funny that you suggest I'm the one having problems with it.

Lots of people give a shit what other people WANT me, and others, to do, because motive is huge part of the equation in the analysis of persuasive speech during a competition.

And don't tell me what to do. You're not the leader.

3. In every area of my life, changes occur and with those changes my reaction/
response. At this point I have no way of knowing for certain of who the nominee will ultimately be, and even if I did, I might change my mind by the time the election rolls around.

That saying..."this too shall change"...

19. That's true, though we have a pretty good idea of whom it will be.
It's more than likely going to be one of the following:

Joe Biden
Hillary Clinton
Christopher Dodd
John Edwards
Al Gore
Mike Gravel
Dennis Kucinich
Barack Obama
Bill Richardson

In my opinion, any of them are better than Rudy, Mitt, Fred, or whomever the Reps decide to nominate.

4. Not a difficult decision.
1) Vote Republican.
2) Vote Democratic.
3) Other.

Some people can make the above decision quite easily, and well before they even have a candidate chosen.

6. It depends on the "other"
Edited on Fri Sep-28-07 02:50 PM by Juniperx
If Al Gore were to run as a Green or other third party, there'd be a rush to vote for "other".

That's one of the many reasons I say there's no good reason to make up one's mind right now.

10. That will never happen.
Al's smart enough to know that he runs as a Democrat or he doesn't run, period. He'd never sabotage the 2008 election in that manner. If he did that, he'd be delivering the election to the Republicans. He understands presidential election dynamics.

24. "He won the election" was nowhere in the post you responded to.
Just some comments about Gore not running as a third party and Gore handing the election to the Republicans.

I didn't think that "he did it before, he'll do it again" was really the response I would have expected to that. Hence, my comment.

26. Yes, he won as a Democrat.
He's not a political opportunist that needs his ego messaged to run under the Al Gore Party platform. If he runs, it will be as a Democrat...and I would be proud to cast my vote for him again.

29. Well said
My concern is that the Democrats we have elected aren't doing what we elected them to do, and I'm not sure why that is. It may well be that a very viable candidate, such as Gore, wouldn't need an established party. I don't think ego has anything to do with it. I think it's all about reality as opposed to what we wish our two parties were all about. Like I've been saying for over six years now, I'm all for the Republicans taking back their party. Seems the Democrats need to do the same. We voted in a Democratic Congress, and they are all scratching their heads wondering why their approval ratings are down.

12. Not in the general public
There isn't going to be a rush to a third party in this election, regardless of the candidate.

Al Gore is a Democrat. He's not about to run as a third party candidate.
