The decision by the United States, Britain and France to delay the vote was a concession to Russia, China and Germany, the other countries in the fragile coalition of world powers seeking to rein in Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. .......
Bush administration officials, who have been pushing diplomats to increase sanctions against Iran, said that the move to put off a decision reflected the harsh realities of seeking to get all six countries to speak with one voice. While officials from Britain, France and the United States were pushing for another vote for sanctions right away, China and Russia wanted to wait for another report from an international nuclear watchdog agency.
The Western powers believe that Iran is enriching uranium so it can develop a nuclear bomb. ............
