Bush Administration Quietly Plans NAFTA Super Highway
by Jerome R. Corsi
Posted: 06/12/2006

Quietly but systematically, the Bush Administration is advancing the plan to build a huge NAFTA Super Highway, four football-fields-wide, through the heart of the U.S. along Interstate 35, from the Mexican border at Laredo, Tex., to the Canadian border north of Duluth, Minn

1. It's not quite secret
There have been posts, esp in the Texas forum, about this for awhile. The superhighway of hell. *sigh*

3. Frankly, I don't think it will ever happen.
WalMart may want it, but there is going to be tremendous opposition on the part of the States and wealthy landowners.

However, if construction really does start on this, I will be out there with the Earth First-ers.

4. They were talking about it on our local radio station in Albuquerque today
The host is a Republican but he actually thinks it's being built. Several truckers and people who had been in Mexico said they had seen it. Most people calling in seemed to think it was a done deal.

I had never even heard of it before and don't know what to think.

6. Goodness. I was all worked up about it when it first reached the surface.
But since then, many people who I trust have pretty much convinced me that it won't happen.

But then, who knows any more with these bastards at the helm?

10. It's already happening.
The first trucks from Mexico came through a couple weeks ago.

7. Jerome R. Corsi
Corsi received national media exposure as credited co-author (with John O'Neill), of Unfit for Command, a book that topped the New York Times bestseller list. The book, written in cooperation with Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, criticized the conduct of John Kerry -- at the time the Democratic candidate for president -- as a naval officer during the Vietnam War and challenged the legitimacy of each of his combat medals. The book also criticized Kerry's later efforts organizing opposition to that war.

9. Yes, I've heard of it and I thought congress stopped it with SPP?
BTW? Isn't Corsi a RW nut?

You might want to look for a Canadian liberal source. ;)

12. I don't know anything about the link. It was the first one I came upon
I heard about this NAFTA super highway on my local Radio station yesterday. All kinds of people called in saying it was happening.

11. "Canadian border north of Duluth"
I certainly wouldn't put this past the corporatists, however, I have read too many references that claim that Duluth is at the Canadian Border. It is actually about five hours south of the border and the stretch between the two places includes beautiful and pricey land, what passes for mountains in MN, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and a Native American reservation.

Perhaps goods could be shipped in and out of the port in Duluth, but I'm not sure that would be particularly cost-efficient if they are trying to by-pass Union workers. (BTW, I would hate to see more harmful critters and alien plants brought into the Great Lakes by an increase in Ocean-going freighters.)

14. I remember after 9-11, thinking about how security jobs would be in high demand...
...Back then I was surprised when it was reported that “truck drivers would be the job of the future”. Back then I didn’t realize what they were talking about, but now I know.

It also now makes sense why Rudy wants to be president so badly. He recently sold his investment firm to an Australian toll road conglomerate.
