Insightful author interviews
Saturday 9 PM, Sunday 6 PM and 9 PM, Monday 12 AM and 3 AM ET

In World War IV, Norman Podhoretz argues that the "war against Islamofascism" currently being waged by the Bush administration is as important for our country to engage in as World War I, World War II, and the Cold War. He defends the Bush administration's dual policies of preemption and democratization, and says that past presidents of both parties have failed to recognize the importance of going on the offensive in the battle against Islamic extremism. Mr. Podhoretz discusses his book with Charles Peña, senior fellow at the Independent Institute and author of Winning the Un-War: A New Strategy for the War on Terrorism.

7. Well
I got up and had some coffee, then I put on a purple corduroy shirt and some worn out jeans (and black underpants, white socks.)I noticed that the weather was cool, so I turned on the heat for 20 minutes to take the chill out. Should I have oatmeal for breakfast? Oh! I''ll call Kathy and ask if she wants some of the leftover sushi Nancy brought over last night. Called her: she does! will bring it over when we're both dressed--we're both late to start the day. Nancy took Rocky for a walk on the beach...should be home soon. Now I'm wondering, "Where's that sfexpat2000 woman? Where are the recommends for this thread? Maybe I'll skip breakfast. "Will Al Gore run?" I wonder. The Magistrate doesn't think so. Maybe he's correct? Now I'm furious with that Al Gore, and now the Supreme Court, and God...but Bill O'Reilly is such a dipshit. Say, where's sfexpat2000? I think I'll PM her. Yes I'll PM her. Should I PM anyone else? Maybe I should do some laundry...

18. You're blowin' my little mind!
I haven't watched one minute of Booktv today. But company and I watched "Idiocracy", which refers to books. So I'm feeling fully justified in kicking this thread.

19. Laura Ingraham has LOST it completely--I feel sorry for her, but IMO she's a wacko.
Thanks Viva for once again, just like clockwork, posting this schedule.

Two items caught my eye:

Competing with 60 Minutes tonight, the first item is my favorite law professor David Cole's book talk, "Less Safe, Less Free: Why America Is Losing the War on Terror" ( http://www.booktv.org/program.aspx?ProgramId=8678&SectionName=&PlayMedia=No ).

And being rebroadcast afterward at 10 pm is former Clarence Thomas law clerk Laura Ingraham's September 20th book talk on "Power to the People". There's absolutely no policy analysis in it, but much macabre talk about "making your life matter" by focusing on what Ingraham considers the two most important issues of our time: (1) "enforcing our borders" and (2) "standing up for the most vulnerable".

Who are "the most vulnerable"? Children whose health coverage Dubya has vowed to veto? No-- Ingraham says they are THE UNBORN!

From what I could gather from her rambling, stream-of-consciousness public near-breakdown, her mother's death and her own brush with cancer have unfortunately redoubled her desire to "make her life matter" by peddling mindless ultraright twaddle.

IMO you won't be able to turn it off once you start watching or streaming it (at http://www.booktv.org/program.aspx?ProgramId=8662&SectionName=&PlayMedia=No ).
