House to take up Limbaugh resolution -(Rep. Mark Udall (D-CO)
http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/13051.html">House to take up Limbaugh resolution

Posted September 29th, 2007 at 11:15 am

I’ve just learned that Rep. Mark Udall (D-CO) will be introducing a resolution in the House of Representatives on Monday condemning Rush Limbaugh for his “phony soldiers” remark.

This is significant because it has the potential to dramatically up the stakes in this fight. If the Democratic leadership allows it to go for a vote, it will force all the Republicans in the House to either vote for it, against it, or skip the vote — and to pass judgment on the powerful conservative talk show host’s contention that troops who don’t support President Bush’s war policies are “phony soldiers.”

It will also potentially present the Dem leadership with a not-so-easy choice. Many people will naturally call on the leadership to allow the resolution to come to a vote, which is not necessarily something the leadership might want, since it could look like a tit-for-tat reso in retaliation for the measure condemning MoveOn. It also is potentially problematic for some in the leadership because there is an internal sentiment that it’s not Congress’ job to go around denouncing the remarks, however reprehensible, of private citizens.

snip->
On the other hand, Glenn Greenwald presents a compelling case: “Several people express the unquestionably valid concern that it is inappropriate, even McCarthy-ite and dangerous, for Congress to start formally condemning private political speech. That is true, and if we had a healthy political system, that would not happen. But, as the MoveOn vote demonstrated, we have the opposite of a healthy political system, and it is thus far preferable — for reasons I set forth here — to ensure that a corrupt standard is applied equally rather than allow it to be applied by one political faction against another.”

9. Seems that way!

I'm glad he's doing this and I think it needs to be done, tit-for-tat aside.
The Dems kowtowed to the bully rethugs demands when they have been the worst
at attacking people serving or that have served in the military.
I hope it goes to a vote and I hope CC cans that pilonidal cyst's ass! :P
Would be a black eye for * and the rethugs! Expose their true colors!
I mean, rush is a mouth piece for the rethugs! Time to shut him and them up!

4. It's why Congress sits at 11% approval.
And both sides deserve it.

11. Five Percent Approval Coming
This is the same Mark Udall who voted to condemn MoveOn.org for the "General Betray Us" ad.

This tit-for-tat is ridiculous and it makes Congress look like a bunch of silly ninnies. In other words, if the Democrats in the House had voted against the radical Republicans on the MoveOn.org resolution, this would now be over with a Democratic triumph. Now, with Udall's resolution, the radical Republicans have again maneuvered the Democrats into a position where they look trivial and not very serious.

I agree with Tom Allen, the Democrat running for U.S. Senate in Maine, about the MoveOn.org ad: "I voted against this resolution today because I believe it is the job of the Congress to bring our troops home, not legislate free speech."

Repeat that: "... it is the job of the Congress to bring our troops home, not legislate free speech."

Udall always votes to fund the occupation ... sponsoring this resolution doesn't get him off the hook for his anti-MoveOn.org vote or for always giving Bush all the money he wants for his wars.

Much more of this and Congress could be looking at an approval rating at around five percent.

17. Oooooh! I didn't know that! Crap!
So this is 'personal' to him now? As in, he has to put his money where his mouth is?
Now I see a little better! Oh well, I'd rather someone who didn't vote against MoveOn
had decided to submit a resolution but what the hey? I want to see the fur fly! :P

6. I'm going to point out that
threatening the press is one more step on the road to fascism.

It's starting to really bother me.

15. The press is the fascism.
It's too late to take any roads when we're already there.

13. Well, maybe this the
Silver Lining in Condeming MOveon.org? The Senate and House Condemned them and what limpbaughs said is infinetly worse. It's not the Generals who are drowning in their blood in this bushits' WAr On Iraq.

Bringing light on the truth of what Toykorush says could only be good for America.

16. I have to agree ...
It was stupid to condemn MoveOn.org, and it's stupid to condemn Limbaugh.

An ideal outcome would most definitely be for CC to drop his fat ass. I mean, they canned Imus.

Hrm. Think I'll hop over to Clear Channel and drop 'em a line.
