Iran Labels CIA 'Terrorist Organization'
Iran Labels CIA 'Terrorist Organization'

By ALI AKBAR DAREINI

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran's parliament voted Saturday to designate the CIA and the U.S. Army as "terrorist organizations," a largely symbolic response to a U.S. Senate resolution seeking a similar designation for Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

The parliament said the Army and the CIA were terrorists because of the atomic bombing of Japan; the use of depleted uranium munitions in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq; support of the killings of Palestinians by Israel; the bombing and killing Iraqi civilians and the torture of imprisoned terror suspects.

"The aggressor U.S. Army and the Central Intelligence Agency are terrorists and also nurture terror," said a statement by the 215 lawmakers who signed the resolution at an open session of the 290-member Iranian parliament. The session was broadcast live on state-run radio.

The resolution, which urges Ahmadinejad's government to treat the two as terrorist organizations, would become law if ratified by the country's hardline constitutional watchdog but probably would have little effect as the two nations have no diplomatic relations.

Ahmadinejad's government was expected to wait for U.S. reaction before making its decision. The White House declined to comment Saturday.

Both, I suppose.

4. I think you're probably right.
Hezbollah for the IRG, and the various corrupt gangs/terrorist orgs for the CIA.

7. Karma is a bitch
Though, to be fair the CIA and the US Army aren't the terrorist orgs. Its PNAC, the Heritage Foundation, Blackwater, and the corporate multinationals that profit from their actions.

12. They hang gay people while we discuss gay marriage, and they think we are bad?
And why do some on DU defend them so?

Oh, that is right - bush is bad, so anyone who hates america and bush is good.

Like Hell.

14. Well, the bottom line, IMHO, is that Iran is a sovereign nation and can set their
own laws & rules just like we do. They are founded on the principles of their religion, just like this country is. Their Koran, like our Bible, says that homosexuality is an "abomination". Not that I agree with it, but that is their belief. Same here. If it wasn't for the bible, the gay issue wouldn't even be an issue, imho.

We cannot, and should not, be the world's police. What they do in their own country is NONE OF OUR BUSINESS. Period. We've got wayyyyyy too many problems and issues of our own to be acting like the morality police everywhere else. If the Iranians don't like their government, let them grow some balls and stand up and revolt.

Charity starts at home, and we need to start taking care of our own before we worry about anyone else...

18. Not in the way we did.
Which goes to the point that your generalization about the US "minding its own business" is flawed. Sometimes we should, and sometimes we shouldn't.

In the case of Iran, we should certainly be exerting a whole lot of pressure on them. Should we bomb them? No. But we shouldn't chalk up their brutality to culture and retreat behind our borders, either.
