Elephants in the room
Is everyone in the room ignoring the elephant(s) regarding change in America?

I don't just mean the crazed Republican rank and file, who'll accept all sorts of draconian measures at home and mass murder in our name abroad so long as leaders say they'll make abortion illegal and censor all hints on mainstream TV that intimate human love and affection might truly exist, to make room for ever more gruesome shows reveling in mindless personal humiliation, torture, and violence -- and therefore allow not only US but foreign corporations to farm Americans like we're chickens in a vast agricultural slaughterhouse.

I also mean more than just the awful political campaign financing racket in America, which basically now prohibits anyone good and honest and independent of dirty money from getting a real shot at power. No, even Jesus himself would have to at least clothe himself in deep deception to have a chance of election in so-called Christian America -- then do much the opposite of his campaign trail promises once in office in order to actually help anyone -- wherever he could overcome the real evil-doers around him to accomplish it.

And I'm not referring only to the astonishingly Stalin-like media now holding the reins on our national wagon, keeping us distracted with nonsense to avoid noticing the dismantling of our Constitution and wholesale theft from the national treasury -- with occasional vicious attacks mounted on anyone and everyone who might successfully challenge the current status quo, by waking up US citizens to the increasing depth of the hole we're in.

No, there's not just one elephant in the room, by any means!

And that's why almost nothing good can be done in America anymore. We've allowed true evil-doers to set up an enormous maze of pitfalls and traps for any good-hearted or well-intentioned person to traverse, while constructing a super-wide express lane for villains to easily slide right into our highest seats of power, and easily deflect all attempts to pry them out again.

So what's a real people's hero to do in such a situation? Most of us would just throw up our hands and give up, after seeing what we were up against. But a real hero might still walk up to the scary walls, pick up a rock, and start banging away. A hero would bang and bang on that wall, knowing their single arm and stone will never accomplish anything, but hoping that if enough others join them in the action, the wall might eventually crack open and spill out the evil-doers, making some room for good folks -- and thereby a change for the better.

In today's America, where virtually all mass media has been bought up by Rupert Murdoch or one of his equally vile friends, what few heroes we have get ridiculed and harassed and slandered and humiliated, over and over and over again. We the audience are persuaded -- sometimes bullied -- into laughing at them, as they bang their pitiful rocks against the towering dark walls.

Sometimes we're even sufficiently ignorant or misled that we actually throw stones at the heroes ourselves, as they stubbornly slam away at that unmoving wall -- for our sakes!

What was it Jesus said on the cross? "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."

Big changes (for the better, anyway) appear to be impossible any time soon in America. Maybe our only hope for now is small, incremental changes, in the proper direction.

But our heroes are damned if they do, and damned if they don't. Go for too big a change (and even moderate changes are considered too large in America today) and they're labeled radicals and extremists and big-spenders. Go for a small change, and they're ridiculed and harassed there too (even by their own side!).

Folks, I hate to break it to you: but if you won't allow big, moderate, OR small changes -- the only thing that's left is no change at all. The exact thing Rupert Murdoch and his cronies are after!

So I say, give some of those lonely folks banging on the wall with a rock a break! Sheesh! What's wrong with you people!?

And if they're crazy enough to try to be heroes, why don't we be crazy enough to give them the chance?
