I Love Bruce Springsteen, Naomi Wolf, And Brad Friedman
Edited on Sun Sep-30-07 04:50 AM by Syrinx
I saw a post by BradBlog the other day. It said that Naomi Wolf was going to be on the show that Brad was guest hosting. I've been a fan of Ms. Wolf for some time. I think she got a raw deal regarding her advisory role on Al Gore's 2000 presidential campaign. And I've been intrigued by her book The End Of America. It's certainly a provocative title. (As an undeserved bonus, she's very beautiful, even if she looks a lot like Norah O'Donnell in this picture.)

After I downloaded the podcast of Brad's show, I listened, out of order. I was looking for Naomi, but came across the Boss first, even though he came later in the show. Bruce Springsteen actually said the following stuff on the Today Show, for god's sake. (I probably made some errors here. I was transcribing from an mp3 while nursing a cheap beer.)

It's really about what's happening now, right now. It's kind of about the things we love about America -- cheeseburgers, french fries, the Yankees battling Boston, the Bill Of Rights, V-Twin motorcycles, Tim Russert's haircut, trans-fats, the Jersey shore. About we love all those things the way women folk love on Matt Lauer. That's right. But in the past six years, we've had to add to the American picture renditon, illegal wiretapping, voter suppression, no habeas corpus, and the neglect of our great city New Orleans and her people, an attack on our Constitution, and the loss of our best young men and women in a tragic war. This is a song about things that shouldn't happen here happening here. So right now we plan to do something about it. We plan to sing about it. I know it's early, but it's late! So come join us. Max, gimme...

You can see this short monologue (in pretty poor resolution) on YouTube.

And then he launched into this amazing song, "Living In The Future."

On an ill wind... Something about me and you... Never seeing one another again... And I knew what had come... I was struck deaf and dumb... Like when we kissed... And I tasted blood on your tongue... Don't worry, darling... No baby, don't you fret... We're living in the future... And none of this has happened yet... Woke up election day... Skies gunpowder and shades of grey... Beneath the dirty sun... I whistle my time away... Then just about sundown... You come walking through town... Your boot heels clicking... Like the barrel of a pistol spinning 'round... Don't worry, darling... No baby, don't you fret... We're living in the future... And none of this has happened yet... The earth it gave 'way... The sea rose towards the sun... I opened up my heart to you... It got all damaged and undone... My ship Liberty sailed away... On a bloody red horizon... The groundskeeper opened the gates... And let the wild dogs run... Alone I limp through town... A lost cowboy at sundown... Got my monkey on a leash... Got my ear tuned to the ground... My faith's been torn asunder... Tell me, is that rolling thunder... Or just the sinking sound... Of something righteous going under... Don't worry, darling... No baby, don't you fret... We're living in the future... And none of this has happened yet... None of this has happened yet

Here's a photo on the Department Of State's own website. Apparently they have appropriated the Boss, thinking he supports them. Or more likely, wanting to fool people into thinking he supports them. Just like Reagan's people did.

And a little later, I rewound the mp3 and listened to Ms. Wolf. In my opinion, she spoke courageous truth to power.

When I wrote this book, I wasn't even thinking about impeachment. Now I think, looking at the historical record, impeachment is not adequate. What we have to do quickly, and this takes trans-partisan effort, and I think Republicans are as scared after they've read End Of America, as Democrats are. Judging from the historical record, we have to follow the impeachment of both Bush and Cheney with prosecution for treason. And then we can restore our country.

Here's a link to Brad's podcast. The interview of Naomi Wolf starts about eleven minutes in. Springsteen is about 34:30 into it.

In my opinion, Bruce Springsteen, Naomi Wolf, and Brad Friedman are all great patriots, and deserve our great thanks and our utmost support!

P.S.

Please do your best to support The American Freedom Campaign, and even The American Freedom Agenda, which also supports and respects the United States Constitution, albeit by true conservatives, including Bruce Fein, from the Reagan administration.

Let's love America by saving it. It's not too late.

:patriot:
