I just sent this email to a local radio station.
To Whom It May Concern:

On Sunday, September 30, about 2:15 pm I was listening to your station. I heard a clip from the old show, “The Honeymooners,” where Ralph says to Alice,

“One of these days, Alice----POW! To the moon!”

I find this objectionable because it says that spousal abuse (i.e. the prospect of Ralph hitting Alice) is acceptable and also that it is a topic for humor.

I like your music, but please don’t play that clip any more.

Sincerely,

XXXXXX XXXXXX

Hope it does some good.

If you live in the area where this radio station is (Greer, SC, 103.3 FM WOLT), please feel free to email them yourself. :-) at biggjake@biggjake.net

1. Wanna Really Make 'Em Feel It?
Take it from one with many years in the broadcast world...the letter is a good thing, but a good chance it will be circular filed. If you want to get their attention, go to a station advertiser...especially on a local station...and raise a stink about how you heard their advertisement on programming you consider offensive and that you had contemplated making a purchase, but as long as their ads run on that station, you'll take your business to a competitor (use a name). In many cases, the sponsor may not even know their ad has been placed on this station or that no one has complained...and get others in your community who think likewise to follow suit. Be assured, nothing gets a Station Manager's attention more than a cancelled contract or pissed off advertiser.

Also, follow up with the station and be sure that your letter is filed in the station's Public Inspection file. This is required by law and you have the right to go to the station and examine that file. If your letter is not there, then file a complaint with the FCC and the station could get a stiff fine.

Also make sure you have a transcript...or can find one...so you can document the time this ocured and what was said.

Good luck...

3. Not to be snarky,
but did Ralph ever hit Alice? I see more domestic violence on local news today than anything that was ever depicted in 1950-60 TV.

4. I don't know. I didn't used to watch it. But at the time Ralph saying that
was considered to be funny. "Honeymooners" was a sitcom.

It's good that domestic violence is on local news. Used to be, it wouldn't BE news. It would be that family's business and let's just stay out of it. :puke:
