I lost my internet connection for a couple of hours this morning
man it was scary, i felt like I had gone deaf, dumb, and blind. I turned on the tube and nothing seemed amiss, but I tell you I didn't like it at all. I started getting paranoid thoughts about my door crashing down, even though I think that would hapen at four in the morning when I'm dead asleep.
It's strange how much i've came to depend on something that could disappear so easily.

2. My modem wasn't working right for a couple months--I would get internet
for a few minutes, maybe a half-hour, and then the connection would drop. It's better now, but Jesus, every time I couldn't log on and get that familiar Google homepage, it was like my life support was shut off.

3. It was on the ISP
Something either burned up or someone cut the wire, whatever it was it's fixed now.

5. Get a shortwave radio receiver.
If they do silence the Internets (a la Burma), you'll still have access to news from the outside world.

6. I need to look into that
I'm afraid though that if they decide to take out the net the majority of dissenters will go at the same time.

7. No joke--we relied on that in Iran for quite some time.
And the government used to jam the signal, but if you put on headphones you could make out what they were saying.

We'd wait anxiously for the BBC World Service music, and the beeping countdown.
