McCain on Muslim flap: 'I'm Not Talmudic'

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/10/mccain-on-musli.html

ABC News' Teddy Davis and Bret Hovell Report: Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was questioned Sunday about a recent interview in which he suggested that he would be more comfortable with a Christian rather than a Muslim president before quickly clarifying his remarks.

"Well, I didn't say it," said McCain. "And we clarified it, and I’ll continue to clarify it. I'm not Talmudic ... I believe that anybody can be president of the United States of any faith."

McCain offered his, "I'm not Talmudic," comments during a Sunday evening house party in Hollis, N.H. He was answering a question from a woman who wanted to know, "how is it possible to delineate that we are a Christian country when we are really made up of so many different mosaics."

:wtf:

1. Maybe he was trying to make a play on words?
Mosaic? Talmudic? I dunno. Even that might be giving him too much credit.

"I didn't say it"... Holy hell. How old is this fruitbat that he lacks the concept of recording devices? Richard Byrd gets it, and that guy's got a cookbook for mastadon.

3. McCain doesn't exhibit the depth of thought
to be considered anywhere near "Talmudic."

I've never heard that word used to describe a person.

7. I'm trying to figure out what he is trying to say with "I'm not Talmudic"
The only sensible way I can think of it is he is saying that he does not intend to parse every nuance of the comment as the Talmud tries to do in its commentaries on Torah. I have never heard a person say he is Talmudic - doesn't it tend to modify "logic" or "interpretation or "commentary". Very very weird.
