Six New Documentaries to Air As Part of Sundance Channel's THE GREEN Presented by Robert Redford
We Feed The World, Energy War, Radiant City, Before the Flood, Strange Culture And Sombe Ke: The Money Place All To Make Television Premiere On Sundance Channel In Fourth Quarter 2007


NEW YORK - October 1 – Sundance Channel has acquired six documentaries to air as part of THE GREEN, the network's weekly primetime destination focusing on environmental topics. We Feed the World directed by Erwin Wagenhofer, Energy War directed by Shuchen Tan, IJsbrand van Veelen and Rudi Boon, Radiant City directed by Gary Burns and Jim Brown, Before the Flood directed by David Lindsay, Strange Culture directed by Lynn Hershman Leeson and Sombe Ke: The Money Place directed by David Henningson will make their U.S. television premieres on Sundance Channel beginning October 9, 2007. THE GREEN is presented by Lexus and Citi Smith Barney.

The deals were negotiated for Sundance Channel Senior Vice President Acquisitions, Program Planning and Scheduling, Christian Vesper and Sundance Channel Director, Acquisitions and Programming Ian Bricke with Rita Akkari and Leila Monks of TVF International for Before the Flood; Kaisa Kriek of NPO Sales for Energy War; Christina Rogers of the National Film Board of Canada for Radiant City; Steven Been of Greenberg Traurig on behalf of L5 Productions for Strange Culture; Diana Holtzberg of Films Transit International for We Feed the World and David Henningson on behalf of Sombe Ke: The Money Place.

ENERGY WAR (U.S. Television Premiere) - Directed by Shuchen Tan, IJsbrand van Veelen, Rudi Boon. With the global demand for energy continually increasing, so does the power held by the relative handful of nations -- including Russia, Iran, Venezuela, Nigeria, Sudan and Saudi Arabia - that are rich in oil and natural gas. This Dutch documentary explores the geopolitical consequences of the world's dependency on fossil fuels.

STRANGE CULTURE (U.S. Television Premiere) - directed by Lynn Hershman Leeson. Artist and college professor Steve Kurtz was preparing for an exhibition that let audiences test if food had been genetically modified when his wife died of heart failure in her sleep. When the medics arrived they became suspicious of his art supplies and called in the FBI who treated Kurtz as a suspected terrorist.

SOMBA KE: THE MONEY PLACE (U.S. Television Premiere) - directed by David Henningson. In the 1940s the Canadian Government operated a mine on the Arctic Circle in order to secretly supply uranium for the United States' Manhattan Project. Today, this same mine, known to the local Sahtu Dene First Nations as Somba Ke - "the money place" is at the epicenter of the massive uranium exploration boom.
