5. So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, ...
So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Freeze Gopher!

:silly:

(I figure the ship he was on was the Love Boat.)

3. I still rely on Ogden Nash for clarification
The Lama

The one-l lama,
He's a priest.
The two-l llama,
He's a beast.
And I will bet
A silk pajama
There isn't any
Three-l lllama.*

*Ogden never knew of DU' flame-wars that often turn into three-alarmers.

His stuff was on the radio in those days. (Does anyone remember radio?)

8. Or ...
Parsley
Is gharsley.

The cow is of the bovine ilk;
One end is moo, the other, milk.

The ostrich roams the great Sahara.
Its mouth is wide, its neck is narra.
It has such long and lofty legs,
I'm glad it sits to lay its eggs.

9. Did he actually read his own work on the radio?
Radio was relegated to the morning hours in my household, so I must have missed it. Nighttime was for television - we had the first remote-controlled television in Northern California. It was custom built in 1949 and I could change the burnt-out tubes in it by age five. I never really discovered the power of radios until my teen years listening to Wolfman Jack on XERB, Hollywood, California.

I just remember being tickled by the play with words. We didn't have Dr. Seuss growing up (too old, I guess) or I'd probably have connected him with word play.

'The Germ'

A mighty creature is the germ,
Though smaller than the pachyderm.
His customary dwelling place
Is deep within the human race.
His childish pride he often pleases
By giving people strange diseases.
Do you, my popet, feel infirm?
You probably contain a germ.

17. I googled what you wrote and
learned something interesting..thank you, TahitiNut B-)

I've lived in the middle of New York for 9 years now and haven't made it to Ithaca yet..I hear it's really progressive, though, and I'd like to go before I leave New York for the Hawaiian Islands in 3 more years.

It will be a really Special Place for those who are there to see the Dalai Lama!~ With his Saffron Robes..I just put Saffron in my Quinoa :P
