Police searching for 39 stolen firearms from one house.
http://www.victoriaadvocate.com/805/story/128163.html

snip
Several of the pistols were Smith & Wessons, Sig Sauers, and Bersas. There were two collector rifles - a Winchester Buffalo Bill and a Winchester Canadian Centennial. A Sako 75SS rifle with scope was also taken. There were over 39 pistols and rifles stolen from the location. snip

Wow. I can't imagine having that many guns around the house. I can understand being a collector of antiques, etc, but this freaked me out a little.

1. I know people who own hundreds.
Of course, they keep them in gun safes so they don't get stolen like RESPONSIBLE gun owners should. I keep one shotgun & one pistol out. The rest are in the safe.

2. I have a good many, myself.
Like you, mine are in safes, except for one pistol (XD45), one shotgun (Defender 12) and one rifle (Daewoo DR 200).

Just in case of an earthquake.

4. I keep mine out in case of criminals.
I live in a rural area. I can not count on help from a police officer if someone decides to bring trouble to my door. They are of no help if locked up in a safe.

7. Nice rifle...
I couldn't afford one of those when they were being imported, but they struck me as being really neat carbines.

8. Really slick.
It will spit 'em out as quick as you can pull the trigger. Never jams.

I have a short-burst conversion that I have not installed.

But I could do it myself, if need be.

9. If you're in the U.S., I hope you have a Form 4 for the parts...

otherwise simple possession is a 10-year Federal felony (assuming they're actual internal parts, and not a trigger crank or something).

I've never handled one, but is the DR200 more similar to an AR-15 or an AR-180? It looks somewhat like an AR-180 to me, and I was wondering if there was any sort of common lineage. Is it piston operated like an AR-180, or does it use direct impingement like an AR-15? I was thinking the Daewoo is a piston gun, but I'm not sure.

11. Well...
It is an AR-15 from the receiver down, but is gas piston (more AK47) from there.

But my pistol kicks equal ass.

I have the 5" option.

I have had Glocks, Pythons, all kinds of stuff, but this one raises hell.

5. Exactly. This was in a neighborhood where the residents can
afford a safe, or even a safe in a safe room.

6. High, but not *that* high. There are DU'ers who own more than that.
Edited on Mon Oct-01-07 08:41 PM by benEzra
My wife and I together own six or seven guns, but if we had the money we'd undoubtedly own more. I know DU'ers who own more, IIRC (I've seen photos of their safes). Plus, if you have several gun owners in the family, and some of them hunt, and some of them shoot IPSC/IDPA/3-gun, and they also own guns for defensive purposes or collect antique milsurps, it can add up.

Aside from the collectibility aspect, guns are like golf clubs, and some are very specialized for a particular niche. A rifle set up for 1000-yard target shooting is pretty useless as a home-defense gun, and a carbine set up for defensive purposes would have to be reconfigured a bit to be competitive at 600 yards.

Bummer that they were stolen, though. Hope they are recovered quickly.
