BIG News! Judge rules Bush can’t block presidential records!

Judge rules Bush can’t block presidential records.

Today, a federal judge “invalided part of a 2001 order by President Bush allowing former presidents to review executive documents before they can be released under open records laws.” The AP reports:

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly ruled that the presidential order eliminated the discretion of the National Archives to control the release historical records. She said the executive order allowed former presidents to delay the release of those records “presumably indefinitely.”

The ruling was made in a lawsuit filed by the American Historical Association and other organizations, which argued that Bush’s Executive Order 13,233 was an “impermissible exercise of the executive power.”

A bill that would overturn the order is pending in the Senate.

33. In case you didn't already know, ...
After Jr. signed this into law, he then had all his papers from when he was Gov. of Texas put into Sr. Presidential papers, so that the citizens of Texas could not FOIA his Gov. papers.

A$$h0le!

2. Aren't we still waiting for Bush 41 papers?

IIRC, he's the one that really gave this a kick start.

:hi:

"Presumably indefinitely" seems like a long, long time to me.

4. Hi, Patsy! Yes, a very long time, and you know these people, who have
so much to hide, will fight this. One for our team today though!

:hi:

3. The order will be appealed. The question will move up to the Supremes.
Guess how they will rule?

I'm not a-holdin' my breath on this one.

gloomily,
Bright

11. Darlin', your faith in human nature is exemplary...
...and I wish I could share it. I really do. A little corner of my Pollyanna midwestern goshgollygee upbringing is still in there wishing it may be so.

But more than four decades of political experience sez: Fat chance.

Here's hopin' yer right, though...

skeptically,
Bright

15. For their consciences to prevail, they'd have to have some.
NO WAY will they comply with this, even if it comes down to a judicial order.

Remember the subpoenas?

6. I hope history is very unkind, very soon.
Let's see what vicious, unconstitutional shit historians can uncover. Public outrage might be the only think preventing us from losing what's left of our constitutional republic.

7. Someone better keep a close watch on Junior's shrink wrapped records at Poppy's Library...
Next thing you know a moving van will roll up and take all Junior's records away to an undisclosed location. There is some really incriminating information inside the shrink-wrap.

Dan Rather should ask the Court to issue an order restricting the removal of the records without Court permission, since it almost guaranteed there are records related to Junior's time in the TANG.

28. 43's Library
Apparently you did not hear of the fire in 43's library.
It destroyed the 9/11 copy of "My Pet Goat", both coloring books even the one that he did not finish,(his daddy didn't have time to help him on that one)and all his crayons melted.

14. And that's why they want to
get rid of all the judges who go by the law and are not under orders directly from the bushits.

"The ruling was made in a lawsuit filed by the American Historical Association and other organizations, which argued that Bush’s Executive Order 13,233 was an “impermissible exercise of the executive power.”

20. The current PHYSICAL disposition of the papers will be the deciding factor.
If they are where they can be released without physical interference, we will see them. If they are in busco's custody.. they will be destroyed before they will be released.

21. Glad to see the subject was even approached, after all this time.
I am certain many of us were completely horrified when the pResidential imposter pulled this off in 2001. He was so full of himself, hit the ground running. Every day was a new wiked trick on the American public. If there's ANY way this decision will be allowed to stand, we're all so much better off for it.

I can't wait to see the material on George H. W. Bush's invasion of Panama, and the massacre of helpless, completely unsuspecting citizens. He should be required to be responsible for this, with the entire story illuminated for the taxpayers who had to underwrite this filthy wickedness financially, while being kept completely in the dark.

24. It was an Act of Congress in the first place
He seemed to think he as one man could just overrule an Act of congress so what good is another Act of Congress going to do. He will just overrule that as well. There are no papers any longer from the Reagan Administration. they have been scrubbed clean.
