Wanna boycott Rush? Quit screwing around with |
|
the big advertisers. Advertisers like Barnes and Noble and Geico are so big you'll never "get" to Rush by boycotting their products.
Here's how you get to Rush. You listen to the Limbaugh program (yeah I know nauseating to even think about) on your local radio station affiliate. You'll hear some national ads for large products like retail stuff, pharmaceuticals, etc. but you will also hear local commercials for restaurants, stores, events, etc.
If you want to get to Rush you need to go through his local radio affiliate.
1. Organize a large protest at the local station. Get some visibility. 2. Write editorials about how horrible Rush is on WXXX and how he shouldn't be allowed on the airways for being unpatriotic. Hey, a local newspaper competes for ad dollars from that Rush carrying radio station. They are usually willing to publish an article about how bad their competition is. 3. Boycott the local advertisers. Radio station managers have very tight budgets and goals. You get one or two regular advertisers pulled and you can make that station manager miss his budget. You know he will report "up the chain" that Rush's show was the problem. 4. Call the station on-air outside of Rush's show and blast him on the air. 5. Write the Manager of the station a cordially, but strict letter discussing how you are boycotting a number of local advertisers and making them aware that the Rush show is anti-American and disgraceful. They will read the letters.
This will work if enough of us do it.

2. That's too much like work. What can I pretend to do while my ass is in this chair? |
|
But seriously, there are some actually -workable- ideas in there for protest. Which is a nice change.

Didn't mean to pee on your parade by posting the same thing virtually here. After I posted I saw yours. Thanks for combining.
I should have said in my original post that I worked for a talk station for years and can tell you that when people protest in front of a station, petition advertisers to reconsider their adbuys, etc. that the sales people get VERY anxious. That goes directly to the boss who also gets anxious. Their message goes up the chain to their regional managers, etc.
Two years ago Rush lost a huge affiliate in Baltimore, WBAL. Another smaller, less known station, picked up Rush but his audience has always been much smaller. Limbaugh's ratings have been declining and some stations are looking for an excuse to drop him. Maybe your letter, email, phone call, editorial will help seal the deal in your town.

8. I understand what you're saying but that was then, this is now. |

Writing and telling the advertisers what you think of them advertising with that jerk can do a lot!
They jumped ship when AC did her BS a month or so ago!

Going local, listening the those who sponsor their radio shows, call, write, and absolutely boycott the local businesses who prop up those shows.
It works! MKJ

7. What happens with things like that.... |
|
Someone on this journal had a website that sold American made products. And they said that the website was republican right wing etc and to boycott the goods.
Well I went to the website clicked on the site where the people made jeans. I told them how this guy was using their jeans to blast his right wing propoganda. The sent me an email asking what it was about. I gave them the address. Two days later they wrote back thanking me, after they had gone to his site, they told me he had to take down the ad immediately. That they wanted nothing to do with stuff like that. So it does work.
