DU Feminists get hate blog shut down

For those of you not watching the women's rights group this week, Triana mobilized the DU women to shut down an anti-woman hate site. I don't know if other sites were involved as well, likely so, but while his blog was still up he was posting about DU specifically trying to shut him down.

Sample quote from (former) blog:

Go to the local women's group office and liquidate it (kill the feminist women there). Wear a dark suit and drive an expensive car (these are more likely not to be suspect). Continue destroying the people who have helped to destroy countless of your fellow Men untill you are killed. Go from women's rights organisation's office to women's rights organisation's office, maybe throw in a few domestic violence shelters and abortion clinics if you wish.

Last I looked, while repugnant, being loud and obnoxious wasn't a capital crime. Or would those be the cops who tasered that invalid in the wheel chair last week? Or the ones who tasered the outspoken journalism student a couple of weeks ago?

Or would that be just the run of the mill cops like those here in Portland who have killed 10 people either on the streets or while in custody since Jan 2005 (two by taser, one shooting death attributed to suicide). They have shot and wounded several more, and had numerous officer-involved shootings in which the suspect apparently wasn't hit.

Personally, I don't trust cops to do the right thing these days. Too amped up on testosterone and paramilitary dreams and neat new hardware.

I think Traina et al did exactly what needed to be done: they used the rules of the hosting site to dismantle a blog devoted to advocating random murder and assault of women. The fact that the cops weren't already there busting this guy for advocating death and violence against a targeted group speaks volumes about their priorities in regard to such incidents.


Or convince me otherwise.

30. Threatening to kill a judge - or anyone else - is NOT protected speech

Incredibly stupid, offensive, racist, misogynist speech - for example "gee I hate all women, they're all bitches, etc" is protected by the first amendment.

HOWEVER saying "Judge ____ is a fucking c--t and someone needs to take her out with a sniper rifle before she can railroad any more men" or "someone needs to bomb that Planned Parenthood clinic and kill those murdering bitches" is an incitement to violence, illegal as HELL (especially the threat against the judge, which is a federal felony) and is absolutely positively not allowed anywhere. I really don't have any idea why you feel the need to bring the first amendment into this thread as it is absolutely irrelevant when incitements to violence are concerned.

It's just like being here, if I ever get too mouthy and belligerent, skinner's got the right to tombstone me, and it isn't a violation of my free speech, though depending on the circumstances it might tick me off. :)

Skinner's not under a legal obligation to provide a platform for me, and google is not under a legal obligation to provide a platform for that guy.

Also, it's part of free speech that we're allowed to contact their advertisers to register displeasure with their practices. His advertisers also had terms of service he was violating.

It isn't just the privileged supremacists who get to use free speech.

Free speech rights don't require private groups to provide you with a microphone - that's been addressed several times in this thread.

His site wasn't parody. He was also sending threats to various women offline, and from the other links in his site, it's clear this is just what his views are.

Interestingly, one of the other sites linked from there discusses yet another blog that was shut down recently, and while the original post was angry about that, some of the comments from their sympathizers actually said, well, no, that one should have been shut down, it crossed into advocating violence.

You probably believe that they would never do it, and so would better serve as some sort of example for learning, for feeding all shades of opinion to the open mind.
