Burma: SHOW US THESE CHILDREN ARE ALIVE & UNHARMED!

These are child novice monks in Burma. Some have been on earth for only 6 years. Some young monks have been on earth for only 7 years. Some child monks have walked the little patch of earth around their monasteries for most of their 10 years. In this picture, they are peeking out of their monastery’s windows.

There have been thousands of child monks exactly like these living, running, laughing, studying and being mischievous in the monasteries throughout Burma. At least until this week.

Many adult and elderly holy men were no doubt just sitting at wooden tables eating out of wobbly lacquer bowls, or teaching a child novice how to put away the velvet fans monks use to shield the sun, or cleaning a battered teapot, or walking quietly –all of these being forms of prayer for Buddhists–

and then you Senior General Than Schwe, leader of Burma, You put your hands inside the hands of the soldiers; You put your aged eyeballs behind the young eyes of the soldiers; and You put your soft muscles inside the hard muscles of the soldiers; and thus You seized, You butted and bludgeoned, and You murdered at will.

Where are these children Senior General Than Schwe? Who is caring for them? In what condition are these children now that many of the only care-giving parents they’ve ever known have been injured and slaughtered?

Senior General Than Shwe, it is said by some that you can manifest all things just as you wish… that you can commandeer young men, buy them into abandoning their religious roots, and then turn them into killer soldiers just because you deem it so.

Yet, for your beloved daughter’s wedding this July, you spent millions in Burmese money belonging not to you, but to the people of Burma. What little they had left. My correspondents tell me Burma is bankrupt. And that the USA and other nations’ monetary sanctions against Burma, only increases Your drug trade interests.

You who impose the instant death penalty over any Burmese dealing in drugs, You put your soft hands inside the calloused hands of opium workers and milk the poppies; You put your weak spine inside the supple spines of workers packing the bundles; You put your corned feet inside the feet of the young who pull the wagons and who drive the trucks to places where Your latest crop of ‘corrupt the young’ drug can be sold illicitly.

And all this opium money flows into your pockets as though you are both the grist and the mill. It’s a wonder you don’t leak white powder when you walk. Than Schwe, you know so many ways to kill people even all the way across the ocean.

This July, your precious daughter received literally millions of dollars in wedding gifts from supplicants worldwide soliciting favors from you. What proofs of supreme importance and power you surely have. And the gift you returned to show your gratitude for such privilege? Murdering holy people.

Sir, some who stand near you, say you can command all things because you need merely say so and it will be done.

Show us then Sir, show us Burma’s child novice monks like these, show them to us, guarantee their safe passage has been upheld… since you ordered young soldiers to raid the monasteries, drag the monks to the deep jungle, killing them and hiding their bodies, since you ordered soldiers to invade monasteries to harm monks in sacred space, to set fires, to surround monasteries and not allow food into the monasteries, beating up all Burmese who love the monks and want to help them….

Show us Sir, a simple thing, a small thing…. Show us that you are stronger than the bottom current at Lake Inle; that you have the strength to find it auspicious to prove to the world, to your friends, to your own daughter who may soon be with child herself… that you have not murdered children, little children praying and being holy.

Surely a man of your great power can easily put his hands inside the hands of those who touch all children with tenderness, surely you can put your eyes inside the eyes of those who find children to be the tiny magicians and small comedians of the world…

Surely Than Schwe you can put your heart inside the Universal Heart and produce all the child monks for us to see, to show us that every last one of them is alive and well. Not starved. Not crying. Not abandoned. Not being harmed. Not injured. Not dying. Not dead. Not slaughtered.
