 Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven

Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day
'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven

Time can bring you down; time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart, have you begging please, begging please

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure
And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven
'Cause I know I don't belong, here in heaven

27. I rarely post on these sort of situations and feel guilty about it.
I just don't know what to say, aside from what others say. I did not know OMC, except for reading his posts, so I don't feel personally connected to him. I can imagine that this is horrible for him and his kids. As a member of this Online Community I feel that it is the right thing to post support for other members. I don't know if when he reads the posts directed to him that they bring a measure of solace to him or not. At a time as this,I don't know if anything can.

Farewell
~ Anne Bronte

Farewell to thee! but not farewell
To all my fondest thoughts of thee:
Within my heart they still shall dwell;
And they shall cheer and comfort me.
O, beautiful, and full of grace!
If thou hadst never met mine eye,
I had not dreamed a living face
Could fancied charms so far outvie.

If I may ne'er behold again
That form and face so dear to me,
Nor hear thy voice, still would I fain
Preserve, for aye, their memory.

That voice, the magic of whose tone
Can wake an echo in my breast,
Creating feelings that, alone,
Can make my tranced spirit blest.

44. What DU can do for the family is
purchase a star. A friend of mine has a daughter whose classmate recently passed away from a brain tumor. The child was a third grader. Her classmates bought a star so the family (and the students) could look up at the night sky and know she was watching over them. This might help OMC's children.

46. Words of Stanley Kunitz I just discovered yesterday.
It's from his poem "The Testing-Tree":

"In a murderous time
the heart breaks and breaks
and lives by breaking.
It is necessary to go
through dark and deeper dark
and not to turn."

86. Here is one I sent to a dear friend who lost her husband unexpectedly:
"By a departing light
We see acuter, quite,
Than by a wick that stays.
There's something in the flight
That clarifies the sight
And decks the rays."

It is by Emily Dickinson.

Someone once said that art always saves you. I find that poetry and music can be extremely helpful. When my brother died suddenly I was the only one to make final arrangements, which kept me too busy to grieve. When I returned to my home in CT my husband played Brahms "Requiem" and I let the tears flow, especially during the beautiful section "How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place." If you are in mourning, I recommend it highly.

89. Thank you so much, CTyankee!~
I was in mourning starting in '97 when I lost my Mom unexpectedly, but I knew nothing and didn't handle it right..looking back I can how wrong I was to react in the self destructive way I did..that why the first poem you gave resonated so well.

And, in the future we will all lose someone unless we go first so I'm going to keep these poems handy. Listening to Chris Rea's "Auberge" right now which is about getting one's priorities straight(it's ten years old but I looked him up and he had cancer)..it's very heartwarming and uplifting.

It's very apparent through OMC's words that Stacey was a special presence among those who were fortunate enough to know her, but anyone who could write such a heartfelt testimony about how much he appreciated and loved her inner beauty is just as special, because his beautiful words have affected those who weren't as fortunate to have known Stacey.

Peace and strength be with you and your two young sons, OMC.

60. You write so elequantly...you should write a book for bereaved families.
Here is my favorite poem that I found so helpful during my time of great personal bereavement. It's very popular so you may have already read it...but it's a poem you could read regularly and still find comfort.

God Bless you and your family and may your wife watch over you and guide you for the rest of your lives. She will be there when you need her! Please believe that as I do with all my heart and have had many experiences receiving messages from beyond...and I was an Agnostic at the time. Believe an listen and watch and you will know what I'm talking about. They are there...watching over you! God Bless you all.

I have one bit of advice...cry your darn eyes out till there ate no more tears and don't try to hold them in for the sake of the children. It will give then permission to cry too and everyone will heal faster, better and longer. I'm crying too for you and your pain.

Here's the poem.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
(Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I DID NOT DIE!

61. I'm so sorry to hear this, but thank you for letting us know.
So sad.

A hard time. There's a former DJ from the first station where I worked who is now dying of complications from Hepatitis C. She's been taken off the transplant list because her heart is so weakened she's no longer considered a reasonable candidate. The family and the rest of us are on a death watch, 'cause it's pretty inevitable at this point.

So sad. I'm so sorry to hear this. Say some extra prayers today, guys. To help the new angel get settled and her family find comfort.

91. We Haven't Posted Much, But I've Seen Many Postings Of Yours SO As A Part
of the DU family I simply want to express my deepest sympathy. I myself understand your shock and grief and words don't fill the immense loneliness. Time DOES help, but you NEVER NEVER forget.

I was once given a poem called "Miss Me, But Let Me Go" but have tucked it away with my memories. It is short, beautiful and insightful. It's so very difficult to watch a loved one suffer, but so very hard to let go.

I send you strength and blessings.

100. How nice of you to post it here in GD. That might provide him that many more
messages of support, which I am sure would be good for him.

Not that ANYTHING will really make him feel better, not for a long time, but I am sure he appreciates all the support he's gotten from DUers in his time of trial.

SG, you're a peach.

108. I am so sorry.
Alongside the deepest grief, there lives the deepest joy; they both abide in the truest part of us. They both honor the connection of surrender.

May the joy your loved one brought you live forever within you, and the grief subside.

112. My deepest sympathies to OMC and family
I am by no means a religous person but I have found great comfort throughout the years in this poem. I wish you share it with you.

I'm Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free

I'm following the path God laid for me.

I took His hand when I heard him call;

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work or play.

Tasks left undone must stay that way;

I found that place at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared a laugh, a kiss;

Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life's been full, I savored much;

Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.

Perhaps my time seems all to brief;

Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your heart and share with me,

God wanted me now, He set me free.

114. Here is a favorite quote about love enduring....
i carry your heart with me,
i carry it in my heart and i'm never without it.
anywhere i go, you go, my dear.
and whatever is done, by only me, is your doing, my darling.
i fear no fear for you are my fate, my sweet.
i want no world for beautiful, you are my world my true.
it's you or whatever a moon has always meant,
and whatever a sun will always sing is you.
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the tree called life
which grows higher and higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide
and this is the wonder that is keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart,
i carry it in my heart.

I certainly can't imagine the pain and sorrow he feels. Only anyone here who has lost a spouse under such tragic circumsatances can understand.
Let us be there for him and his kids. For as long as it takes.
