Attorney in bribery case withdraws subpoenas of 12 congressmen

Some could be refiled this week
SAN DIEGO -- The lawyer for a Poway defense contractor accused of bribing former federal lawmaker Randy "Duke" Cunningham agreed Tuesday to withdraw his request to force a dozen sitting congressmen to testify in his client's criminal trial next week.
But the attorney also said that more subpoenas for congress members will be coming as he fights to defend businessman Brent Wilkes.
But Geragos told U.S. District Judge Larry Alan Burns that he planned to refile subpoenas for five of the lawmakers, including Rep. DARRELL ISSA, R-Vista, and presidential hopeful Rep. DUNCAN HUNTER, R-El Cajon.
"It's almost as if these House members are saying, 'How dare you subpoena us?' " Geragos said. "But we've got members who were on these plane flights with Mr. Cunningham, who were going to these dinners hosted by Mr. Wilkes. There's a whole host of events that have nothing to do with the legislative process."
