I double dog swear my very first thought was I hope this crazy bastard doesn't get us involved in any wars.

31. I realized that that did not appear a good birthday present in 2000.
I decided I wanted to create a symbol of the illegitimacy of Bu$h

I created the George W Bush 2000 stolen election commemorative silver and gold coins.

We don't sell the coin any longer but we sell the image of the coins

59. I heard that from a LOT of people
I was in shock through the 2000 election (that's when I first found DU). I could not believe what was going on and that there were not more people upset about it like I was.

My late partner (I miss you, Mike) would tell me I worried too much, how much damage could he really do, and that he would never get re-elected.

Well, my partner died in December '03, and did not have a chance to see just how much damage a stupid, souless drunk like * could do (remember how it didn't matter that * was dumb as the proverbial box of rocks because he would have a bunch of good advisors?)

At the time of the election I couldn't believe my co-workers were cracking jokes about the butterfly ballets, hanging chads, etc. I wanted to scream at them, "They're stealing an election, and you're joking?!?!"

That's when I began to realize just how much of a problem the mainstream media is. The talking heads were screaming "Constitutional crisis! This needs to be resolved NOW! The people want this resolved!" This ran counter to the polls at the time, where the majority wanted this handled fairly, not quickly.

And then I called my friend who had worked on the campaign with me and we decided to do something, to go out to try and forget our sorrows. We picked the wrong place and time. We picked the Little Theater of Alexandria on a night when Barbara Bush was in the audience. I'll never forget how smug the old bitch looked.

10. We are going to go to war; have our economy destroyed; and lose our world leadership. I posted it on
a NY Times forum and some posters told me I was surely being too negative.

I'll never know why so many people were pollyanna about Bush. They are older now and many are now wiser and poorer.

After 9/11 I was surprised by how many people were unwilling to accept that Bush and his gang had fore knowledge of an attack, and rallied around him.

even when we finally got to hear Condoleeza's excuse: we thought it was going to be an ordinary hijacking.......people don't yet want to confront what a damning statement that is.

13. It truly was panic.
I knew he was evil. It was a strong feeling that our lives would change.
I wasn't a Democrat or a Republican. I wasn't involved at all. I had been a military wife and you really do learn to be impartial. But 2000 changed everything. That election was a crime. I knew standing in my living room, my mouth agape when the suppreme court announced that there would be many more crimes to come. I really wish I had been wrong. Bush made me afraid, he truly did.
I started searching for the one sure way to be rid of him and I became a Wes Clark Democrat. I still feel if General Clark was the nominee in 2004 he would have beaten this monster. Oh well.

14. When they went to court to stop the vote count I said to myself,
"They do not believe in democracy."

It followed that they were trying to undermine the entire system built on "the consent of the governed."

When the Supreme Court stopped the vote count, I thought, "We don't have America anymore." I thought I was alone in my thinking.

On or around December 18, 2000 when Bush said, "This would be a heck of alot easier if this were a dicatorship, so long as I am the dictator...." I said to myself, "He's putting it in our faces. He's rubbing our noses in it."

16. Quite frankly, i wasn't surprised. Bush was/is a put-on anyway..
by that i mean he was arranged - put on to the American people precisely BECAUSE of oil. War with Iraq was inevitable when he became president, whether 9/11 happened or not. We all know that now.

Why else on earth would an illiterate, ignorant, likely addict, C student, single term governor of Texas who failed at every business he ever entered into be promoted so heavily to the people of the United States as someone that could somehow properly lead them?

The idea that George Herbert Bush was a legitimate candidate for and an appropriate holder of the position of President of the United States of America is one of the biggest scams ever foisted on the electorate in the history of politics.

And they pulled it off TWICE!

If nothing else, Rove has to be admired for his marketing genius.

was a big mistake. And then when they announced that the outcome was unclear, I knew I was right.

My heart was broken when I saw a picture in the newspaper of bush**, cheney, Bowel, Rice and Rove in the Oval Office before the Supreme Court decision came in. They had just moved in. And I know right there and then that they were gonna steal it. And I just cried.

when Dan Rather said, Al Gore needs the state of Florida and Pennsylvania to win. Moments later it was official, Mr. Rather announced that Al Gore had won both states and he was our next president.

Breathing a sigh of relief, I went outside to have a smoke. Ten minutes later, I came back inside and my wife said that there was a problem in Florida. Right then and there, I knew we were fucked!

Edited on Wed Oct-03-07 10:37 AM by calimary
know why. I just had this bad feeling - a sense of deep trepidation, I guess, about things that COULD go very wrong now. Of course at the time there was no way to know HOW very wrong things went as a result.

I remember when he was "introduced" in that lovely staged ceremony where the Democratic speaker of the Texas legislature and all the pretty flags and he even offered a comment indicating he was aware that there was a vast number of Americans who hadn't voted for him and he was going to earn our trust. Yeah, MY ASS. I remember watching that and feeling a cold chill going down my back and the hair starting to stand up on the back of my neck.

I will never forget that. It was just visceral. Just the strangest thing, and I remember noting that to myself at the time - "gee, why am I getting these chills - is that a bad omen or something, or am I just being paranoid here?" I didn't know a huge amount about him beyond not being impressed by everything I had seen and what I DID know. And, of course, it was a no-brainer to vote for Gore, in my opinion, even back then. I didn't know WHY that hair was standing up on the back of my neck. It just did. But I noticed it straight away and was troubled by it. And I remained troubled by it for weeks. That is, until suspicions started to turn into realities.

Now, of course I do know. EVERYBODY does. :shudder:

60. my heart sank, because I knew that some very bad things were going to happen
Actually I had a sense of foreboding from about September on, that there was something brewing. I started to feel better on election night when I saw that Gore was leading -- but then I turned on the TV one last time before going to bed, and saw that the networks had revoked their calling of Florida for Gore. The TV stayed on until past daybreak, because I had such a powerful sense of approaching dread that I was unable to get to sleep. I have never had such feelings during an election before.

63. I cheered, then realized around when Bush invaded Iraq what a horrible leader Bush was
And after that started to realize "wait a minute, I seem to be agreeing with democrats more then republicans lately", and switched to an independent, then later to a democrat as I began to disagree with the GOP more and more.

I grew up in a family of big republican supporters. At least I can say I was too young to vote in 2000, so I can't look back and kick myself for voting for Bush.
