Marines denied entry to Oakland Airport: is there any real verification of this BS?
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298842,00.html

Gibson, Faux's answer to Howdy Doody, attributed this BS to Michael Ledeen - someone who has been known to LIE LIE LIE in the past.

2. Marines returning home from Iraq were beaten to death with puppies and aborted fetuses
if you listen to the rabid right.

The Marines were not to be cleared through security thus the airport had them wait on the tarmac for their connecting flight.

But the rabid right wanted to make a fuss over this. I believe in order to take the edge off Limbaugh's comment.

6. Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean? I dont understand a lot of this.
They had already been screened by TSA and Customs in NY and had been in the JFK terminal. So why wouldnt they have been allowed into Oakland?

11. That is just it, they were not screened by TSA in NY
which is why they were not allowed inside the terminal in Oakland

Once airport authorities learned the passengers had not gone through security screening during an earlier stop in New York, they decided to park their aircraft at a remote location and keep them on board.

The commanding officer reportedly did not complain about the arrangement. But Oakland Mayor Dellums, a former U.S. Marine, says he directed the city-managed airport to make sure service members receive a better reception in the future.

During their two-hour layover, the troops were served food, provided restrooms and allowed to smoke outside of their chartered plane, according to an airport spokeswoman.

But the rabid right is raising a fuss trying to say "how can you complain about Rush if airports treat our boys so badly". The fuss is just the rabid right re-writing the truth yet again.

4. I do not even know why they are using
civilian terminals. When i was in we flew on chartered planes and went through the same stuff. What the fuck is with these military people thinking they are always "due" something? I see no problem what ever with what they went through. Make them pay for their flight on a non-chartered airline and see if they still whine about it.

I gave many years to the military and the country and i am not owed one goddamn thing from anyone. I wish they would grow the fuck up.

5. Oakland airport says security required troops to stay on tarmac
http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_7064236

The Associated Press
Article Launched: 10/02/2007 05:31:34 PM PDT

OAKLAND, Calif.—Oakland International Airport officials said Tuesday that security concerns about a charter plane ferrying military personnel from Iraq led them to direct the aircraft to a remote corner of the airfield, causing the troops to spend a two-hour layover on the tarmac.

The group of more than 200 troops, which reportedly included both U.S. Marines and Army soldiers, stopped in Oakland Sept. 27 during a trip from Iraq to Hawaii so the North American Airlines charter could be refueled, cleaned and restocked with food.

Airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said she did not know which units or which services were represented on the plane.

Airport authorities said they learned from Hilltop Aviation, which provides services to airlines on the ground, that the passengers had not been screened by the Transportation Security Administration at a previous stop in New York. Moreover, the authorities learned that there were weapons on the plane.

"Together with our security partners, the airport made a decision to park this aircraft at a remote location on the tarmac," Deborah Alle-Flint, assistant director of aviation for the airport, said in a prepared statement.

14. The link you posted is from a GOP site. Rewriting the truth is its trademark
The only one confused here are people who are ignoring reality but instead listening to GOP propaganda. Do you also believe the bunk that Rush was "taken out of context" even though his bigoted statements were reported in their entirety?

15. Of course not.
When I did a quick search the only thing I found led me to that site. I stll havent followed up on the other links posted here yet.

Just because something is GOP doesnt make it always a lie, though it may very well be in this case.

10. "Moreover, the authorities learned that there were weapons on the plane."
Seems reason enough - I mean, do you really want THAT kind of security breach?

Even getting one bullet into an area that has been sanitized compromises all security.

I knew there was more to this story...

16. Umm, they're soldiers.
The same guns and soldiers who patrol those same airports when security levels get jacked up.

20. It's not the soldiers I would be worried about if I were TSA
It's the weapons.

All it takes is one to find its way into the wrong hands.

12. OH whether this is true or not
this republican's statement, We want to treat our military with respect, is a damn lie. Look at what they do to any bill that is proposed to help our military.

Anything to make a good headline and photo op concerning our military they're all for it, but, helping them, really helping them, forget it.

13. Quick! Crank up the Phony Outrage Machine!!!
Nevermind the fact that the exact same thing could have happened in Texas. Since it was Oakland, obviously it was "far-left Libruls" who were determined to "spit on the troops"!

17. Sounds a lot nicer than waiting inside anyway
Their commanding officer didn't mind, and That part of the country has the best weather in the world, IMO, and I would have loved it -- they even got to smoke -- which raises another point, if anyone gets spit on by Californians it's smokers, not soldiers or marines.
