Hey DU.
I only shop at progressive supermarkets. In my area, Stop&Shop and ShopRite are union shops. All other supermarkets do not have union representation.

So I went to Stop&Shop to fill the script. It cost me $50.oo.

When I told my sister, she informed me that WalMart offers generic medications for $5.00! Regardless of your medical coverage!

Anyone know if this is true? I can't afford this crappy med, but I can if it costs $5.oo.

Anyone know if WalMart offers $5.00 prescriptions?

2. $4 prescriptions...
I think one still needs insurance, however...

But it's worth a check.

And non-generics will cause problems...

7. not all prescriptions, certain prescriptions. I saw tv things about it. It is
the same as the supermarkets offering certain foods at below wholesale every week, so that you will go in the door. I have never been in a walmart, so I don't know which ones, but I remember the big tv campaign last year.

8. Walmart has a lot of generic medications for sale for $4.00.
Edited on Wed Oct-03-07 12:43 PM by hashibabba
Just to go Walmart.com and look up the $4 list to see if your medication is on it.

I'll have to go to Target and check because WalMart didn't happen to have mine.

They do not require ANY insurance to get these meds. And they don't cover all meds, like ones that are easily abused, addictive, etc. It's not because they're trying to get you in the door with one drug or another. The $4 gets you into the store.

This is good for the working poor and lower-end of the middle class. Those who don't have insurance, in particular.

The Meijer family are good people.

30. Oh my where do I start......I worked in the deli, supposedly part-time
I worked 39 hours a week could not get full time status, worked there for 7 months before I got a week-end off, then when I asked for my birthday off I got raked over the coals,team-player and all that bull, was due for a raise at the same time Ohio's minimum wage increased, didn't get my raise when asked why they said "you did, everyone did" I disagreed with this and they asked if I wanted everyone else to loose their raise and I said no I just wanted mine what was promised to me when I hired on.Was promised a weekend off for about a month and a half for a family celebration two days before they said oops too bad you gotta work.Department manager was never there always "on vacation" didn't even know how to do half her duties, and pushed her work off on us,some people had to stay past their quit time to do her work, would not fix equipment and any one who ever worked in a deli knows this could very well be quite dangerous! store manager said if you don't like it quit, I did! All the while they were talking how family oriented they are bla bla bla, yes their family, not the employee's.OH and BTW when Walmart opened down the road from them over 2 dozen jumped ship and went there, I know for a fact it wasn't just me with this problem.

10. It's true but I think your doctor
has to say a generic is ok for a Rx. Try Costco also, can't get much bluer than they are and you don't need to be a member, just say you want to go the pharmacy.

13. Wal-Mart and Sam's Club Pharmacies
have $4 generics. The list is limited, however, but often the drugs they offer are very similar to other more expensive drugs. Get a copy of their list and take it to your doctor to see if there are any on it that you can substitute for drugs you are currently taking. Also, those prices are for everyone, with or without insurance.

14. There are limited meds available at WM for $4. It's worth
checking to see if the one you bought or any others you take are on their list. I would suspect it's not. Lots of other businesses have also joined the "$4-$5" generic scripts too, so you don't HAVE to go to WM!

Here is a list of the meds WM sells for $4. You DO NOT NEED INSURANCE! This the price the 1 month prescription costs!

http://www.livebetterindex.com/4drug.pdf

The other bit of info I got was that MANY generic meds are significantly cheaper at Sams Club & Costco. Those two companies use a different method of pricing. Most stores including drug stores, use a "discount off of the name brand" method, meaning if a name brand drug costs $100 for 30 pills, they discount the generic by 35% and charge $65 for the generic. Costco & Sams use a "cost plus" method, meaning if a generic drug costs $3.00 for 30 pills, they add their margin of (guess) 40% and charge $4.20. This information is from Clark Hoard who has a nationally syndicated consumer help radio show 5 days a week. You can read his results at his web site.

17. It's four bucks and the list is at the website
I've been without insurance for 20 years. This program is great.

It's a loss leader for Wally's, meaning it's meant to get you into the store so you'll buy the stuff they make a profit on.

Costco has $5.00 prescriptions. Their list is at their website.

Target has cheap prescriptions. Their list is at their website.

Help is out there for a few generic prescriptions.

18. Try Costco Pharmacy.....
We saved a huge amount by using them. You do NOT have to be a member to use their pharmacy.

Yes, Walmart has a generic program where you can get generic drugs for $4.00 for a 30 day supply. BUT, the generic list is very limited - at least we found it to be.

So, seriously check out Costco Pharmacy if you have one near you. You can also check the prices online; however, sometimes it is hard to find the exact drug. Best thing would be to call them and ask for prices. My husband was paying all but $500 a month for his meds. At Costco they are $134. I'm serious.

22. I don't know I googled both pharmacies and it seemed WM had
quite a few more than Costco, and WM is more convenient because chances are good there is one closer to you than Costco, at least in this neck of the woods.( a lot of WM drugs had "new" after them, so could it be you have an older list?)

My local supermarket pharmacy offers around 500 generics for $5. It's only a buck more and I'd rather give them my business.

Call around and see what you can find.

If you can, and you call their pharmacist, they should be able to confirm or deny the veracity of the $5. for the particular generic drug regardless of medical coverage.

31. K&R. There's some good info in this thread we all should see.
My Mom goes to Walmart for the meds she can get for $4, she is in the donut hole now. And she got enrolled in a program for her Cancer med (costs $300 a month)her cost $25. Good for the rest of the year. ARIMIDEX does have a program out there if your total cost out of pocket for all your meds exceeds $750. Thank God.

Get this on greatest people, Recommend.

A doctor who wouldn't automatically prescribe the generic when the patient has to pay out of pocket, and it's available, is not paying enough attention.
