37. There is a very large Christian green movement, and it grows larger all the time
Christians who know we are killing the planet and see it as part of their responsibility to do something about it and fight against global warming.

I know that doesn't fit into the neat little boogey-man shaped hole some people want to pound all Christians into, but there it is.

It was a slam against the narrow-minded, bigoted, hateful and totally fantastical attitudes of the far right.

Heck... it was actually a church conference on environmentalism that finally pushed me into voting the Democratic platform way back when.

But, I'm sure Rush knows my relationship with God better than I do, so who am I to argue...

21. Logically you must be an atheist LanternWaste
in Rush's world...

Only atheists believe in global warming ("true by declaration")
therefore
All global warming believers are atheists

You believe in global warming
therefore
You are an atheist

Further:
You claim to be religious
therefore
You are a liar
(or as the playbook puts it, You are one sad lyins SOB <cut off mike>).

Feel better now?

of the right wing denial mongers. They have so many things to deny right now they can't spare the time to think of statements that bear up to even a minute's rational analysis. Trying to understand that mind set is futile and will yield only a mild headache as a result.

All you can is do is marvel at the rich variety of psychosis now on parade as the right wing propaganda machine crumbles under the various burdens of revealed reality. Have a beer, kick back, relax, and enjoy the show.

10. Or a Christian who has never read the bible.
This place is ours to fuck up. And no one is going to save us.

If you fall down a well, I don't care how hard you pray, Jesus isn't going to come and lift you out.

Almost no one realizes that we are the ones who are going to have to take care of this place. This is not the Garden of Eden. In fact, just the opposite. The tendency here is for bad things to happen. We actually have to get off our asses and work to make this a good place. We have to care about each other, and we have to care about the planet.

Get off your ass, Rush, and do something. Don't just sit there spouting your garbage.

You're garbage, Rush.

11. Here's the thing about that statement.
And it's one of the main reasons the fundies aren't getting behind this. Now based on what we know about global warming, if it gets worse, the waters will rise dramatically. But as far as Rush's audience is concerned, we've already had our great flood (See Noah's Ark) and supposedly should never have another.

The Vatican yesterday added its voice to a rising chorus of warnings from churches around the world that climate change and abuse of the environment is against God's will, and that the one billion-strong Catholic church must become far greener.

At a Vatican conference on climate change, Pope Benedict urged bishops, scientists and politicians - including UK environment secretary David Miliband - to "respect creation" while "focusing on the needs of sustainable development".

39. Actually, I think it might be God's way of eliminating the stupid species before they grow
and destroy something really big.

Consider: almost all of our bodily functions that work to keep us alive are NEGATIVE FEEDBACK LOOPS, where excess is recovered to damp the increasing oscillations of a given system

I hope I am expalining this correctly, I always get these concets a little muddied, but the larger issue of negative vs. positive feedback loops remains.

while it now appears that most of the earth's environmental systems are POSITIVE FEEDBACK LOOPS, which promote runaway reactions because the feedback increases the oscillation of the system.

Could this not be God's Test For Species? Species too stupid and shortsignted to notice this, are not around for very much longer, geologically-speaking, which seems a high probability at this moment for h. sapiens.

Just something to think about.

65. Really?! Pat Robertson converted to atheism?! Thanks for the newsflash, Rush!
Pat Robertson: I’m ‘A Convert’ On Global Warming, ‘It Is Getting Hotter’
Yesterday on the 700 Club, evangelical Pat Robertson declared himself “a convert” on global warming. Robertson said that he has “not been one who believed in global warming in the past.” But now, Robertson said, he believes “it is getting hotter and the ice caps are melting and there is a build up of carbon dioxide in the air.” Robertson implored, “we really need to do something on fossil fuels.” Watch it:

Robertson talked briefly about global warming again on today’s edition of the 700 club. Alternet has the video.

Today’s transcript:

They are defending the society. But I tell you stay in doors ladies and gentleman. Stay cool. Get fans or whatever. And the poor, they need emergency fans and ice to cool down — the number of people dead. I have not been one who believed in the global warming. But I tell you, they are making a convert out of me as these blistering summers. They have broken heat records in a number of cities already this year and broken all-time records and it is getting hotter and the ice caps are melting and there is a build up of carbon dioxide in the air. We really need to address the burning of fossil fuels. If we are contributing to the destruction of the planet we need to do manage about it.
