Hypocrisy:

Dixie Chicks axed by Clear Channel

<...>

"Just so you know," Texas native Maines said on stage, "we're ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas." Maines added she felt George W. Bush's foreign policy is alienating the rest of the world.

Her remark unleashed a nationwide backlash. The group's records have been pulled by dozens of country-music stations across the country, including two Clear Channel-owned stations in Jacksonville, WQIK 99.1-FM and WROO 107.3-FM.

"Out of respect for our troops, our city and our listeners, (we) have taken the Dixie Chicks off our playlists," said Gail Austin, Clear Channel's director of programming for the two Jacksonville stations.

That's a big leap in logic, said media expert Dennis Stouse, a Jacksonville University professor and chairman of the school's department of communications. "It doesn't have anything to do with our troops or our city."

<...>

Maines apologized for the remark last Friday. However, Clear Channel confirmed Tuesday the group's music is still not being aired by either station.

1. my email
A few years ago "out of respect for our troops" and "our listeners", ClearChannel took The Dixie Chicks off their playlists for expressing embarrassment of Bush. Yet Rush Limbaugh, a man of many military deferments, can accuse people serving their Country of being "phony soldiers" and be supported and defended by Mr. Mays?

You've shown yourselves to be nothing but pathetically greedy, money-grubbing Republican hypocrites. You may not miss this listener today, but, multiplied by the hundreds of thousands online who are disgusted by your actions and blatant, unapologetic hypocrisy and partisanship, I suspect your Advertisers will eventually miss our dollars.

with Clear Channel using their NOW privately owned power in monopolies in both radio and on the billboard space to send a mixed message on how they support "progressive talk", which they are planning to shut down shortly and replace with sports talk right before they amplify the power of this frequency from 5,000 watts to something "usable".

Funny thing is that this is posted on a right wing poster's site ( http://lvb.net/item/2552 ) and they try to use this along with the following image from Viacom (who also has billboards too) to show how Clear Channel isn't as "bad" as we think it is:

To me it's FAR more clear that both of these folks are clearly showing a RIGHT WING serving attitude in both of these billboards, whether advertising a right wing product or a progressive product. Note that one says "Progressive Talk" and the other tries to pass itself off as "News Talk" instead of a comparable "Conservative Talk". It's all about nuance and the framing.

It's ALL about the corporate media!
