Pelosi :"Dry Powder" on the override vote .
Edited on Wed Oct-03-07 04:46 PM by jaysunb
You can't make deals with the devil, Dear Lady. :evilfrown:

House Democratic leaders have decided to put off an override vote on the SCHIP veto until October 17. There will, however, be an hour of House floor debate at some point this afternoon on a procedural motion. Dems are also planning a press conference this afternoon. The motion will essentially call for delayed consideration of the override vote. It will pass

16. Did Pelosi denounce the Bush veto?
did she say how evil and wicked Bush is regarding his view on children's healthcare? Did she say she would drop him in a large vat of piranha fish. I expect not?

2. Why is this bad? It gives us plenty of time to tell them what we think.
I suggest using the phrase, "primary challenge" quite a bit when you call.

Wrong link, I think.
I got to some story about the Isaiah Thomas sexual harassment suit.

In any case, though, I don't see why there should be any outrage over this. They are having an override vote. They've set a date for it. So, what's your point?

4. As has been repeatedly, as in over and over again, reported
she is delaying this vote so that an ad campaign can be run which, it is hoped, will force some targetted Republicans to change their minds. This has been reported over and over again on among other places NPR.

8. You have your facts wrong...
The delay is for the purpose of ramping up pressure on Republicans, and ad campaign will be initiated...

Take the vote now and it would fail...

12. OK, so we shall wait and see what happens
Maybe THIS will be the one, where the Democratic strategy is something more than "crawl and grovel and give Bushler what he wants".

OTOH, since this issue is merely a benefit, an entitlement, rather than the massive and pressing questions of unconstitutionality and corruption and torture and war crimes and...it is actually possible that Pelosi will force a veto, and get the S-CHIP funding increase restored.

I still wouldn't make a bet on it, not without some serious odds.

13. My bet is that
they will talk about it a few times and then let it drop off the radar. Overriding a veto is a radical action, don't ya know?

17. The more I look,
the more I see that Cindy Sheehan was right to run against Pelosi to try to take her seat.

Oh, did I offend sensibilities by rooting for Sheehan's run against Pelosi? I'm sorry.

Wait, no, I'm not sorry.

27. Well, I'll wait and see. You could be right or we could all be surprised.

... On “The View,” Pelosi dodged the Iraq question.

“Well, we are trying to ,” she said. “We have a contrast here between the 10-year, $1 trillion war the president is proposing, and we’re talking about a year that redeployment begins as soon as safely possible and ends within a year. That’s the debate.”

Pelosi has at times been criticized as a poor public speaker, and several times Tuesday she appeared to struggle.

Still, when the show’s conservative stalwart, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, laid into her with more questions on Iraq, Pelosi pulled out an applause-winning line.

Hasselbeck asked why Democrats want to remove troops from Iraq when a new report showed the civilian death toll falling.

“Now we’re seeing a reduction in those civilian deaths and giving them the space that they do need for that political change. That is happening,” Hasselbeck said. “In my mind, and I’m sure many others, that’s seen as a success.”

Pelosi sweated the question for a moment before answering.

“Elisabeth, if I may, with all due respect,” she said, “there are still a lot of people dying.”

In her eight-minute appearance, Pelosi never got to talk much about the easy stuff.

She wasn’t asked what it is like being the first female speaker or what Democrats have done to help provide children with health insurance. ...

22. As a Californian and a SF Bay Area resident, I'm really disappointed

and disgusted that anyone from this liberal area would be such a huge disappointment. Her consituents are fighters, ass-kickers and full of courage. We not only got her, but the one and only DiFi, who is the worst thing that ever happened to the Dems.

Now Barbara Lee, there's a butt-kicking heroine!!!!! Barbara Lee for Speaker!!!
