Imus Near Deal to Return to Air Waves (WABC-New York)
From Newsday:

Imus fans: Your wait is almost over!

Citadel Broadcasting is close to finalizing a contract with Don Imus that would bring the controversial radio host back to the airwaves...

It was not immediately clear from where Imus would be heard, but Citadel owns WABC in New York, making its morning slot a logical destination. It also owns WPLJ-FM.

Currently the ABC spot is occupied by Ron Kuby and Curtis Sliwa.

...WABC long has been considered a logical platform for him to launch a comeback.

He would bring along his longtime newsman, Charles McCord, who last appeared on WFAN Aug. 31. Less clear is what role, if any, a more controversial member of Imus' old crew, Bernard McGuirk, would play. One possibility is a nonspeaking role as a producer/writer...

1. I'm not surprised
it's the New York outlet for National Hate Radio, starring such luminaries as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

5. Yep, Coulter is on TV nearly every night
She has advocated shooting all liberals. That's not a silly insult, that's both a threat and inciting violence. Haven't heard a peep about that.

6. Citadel Just Took Over Ownership
WABC has become a waste of electrons...a once great radio station that now specializes in hate. This company paid big money for these properties and think Imus will be a meal ticket to top ratings in the morning. If anything it speak about not only the sad state of radio, the destruction of the public airwaves but also the desperation of a company like Citadel in hiring this sleezebag to turn a quick buck.

In Chicago, WLS was once a dynamic talk station...at one time having both Jay Marvin and Mike Malloy to balance Rushbo and other right wing hate mongers. I've long removed them from my push-buttons...as have many people I know.

Here's hoping the billions Citdel spent end up bankrupting this inept company.

9. Imus had great material and great guests
Everybody who was anybody came on his morning show, and he asked them anything and everything. Every day there were several good guests. Morning Joe is hogwash, except Mika Brzezinski.

10. Agree with you about SCARBOROUGH & Mika. Disagree about sL-IMUS's "great guests"
"Everybody who was anybody" translates to all the wannabe elitists (except Frank RICH). Inside the Beltway bozos who were OUT OF TOUCH with us vast unwashed and who thought that by kow-towing to sL-IMUS's hokey badgering somehow got them in touch.

Before anybody cites sL-IMUS's "charity" and endorsement of KERRY, whatever actual charity he did is, for me, compartmentalized over unto itself, apart from the 90% hateful crap damage he did. And his whole schtick was all carnival crap, nothing was real. In moments of truth he confessed that everything he said was to get attention and be on the winning side. There was no conviction NOWHERE: How to explain the contradictions inherent in his endorsements of Joementum, Harold FORD jr, and KERRY?!1 In 2000 he endorsed Shrub with the comedians' "reason" that he would give them more material for jokes. That's a really deep reason for supporting somebody.

11. Then you weren't watching
He had everyone on his show. Now, of course, they all say they shouldn't have gone on there. But everyone you know in the media was on his show. And virtually all of the politicians you can name were on his show. His show was full of great guests every morning.

12. Oh, I was watching, or rather listening in a semi-doze. The difference is between
what you call "great guests" compared to what I call sniveling, weaselly, FAMOUS, shallow, cowardly people---and I include our Dems who appeared. My definition of who you are talking about is in my previous post.

Who did you think I meant--UNKNOWNS, non-celebs?

8. from "A Face in the Crowd"
This movie (by wingnut tool Elia KAZAN) with Andy GRIFFITH as a sL-IMUS type sleezeball, whose career is busted by an on-air exposure of his cynicism and despicable character.

Lonesome Rhodes: Listen, I'm not through yet. You know what's gonna to happen to me?

Mel Miller: Suppose I tell you exactly what's gonna happen to you. You're gonna be back in television. Only it won't be quite the same as it was before. There'll be a reasonable cooling-off period and then somebody will say: "Why don't we try him again in a inexpensive format. People's memories aren't too long." And you know, in a way, he'll be right. Some of the people will forget, and some of them won't. Oh, you'll have a show. Maybe not the best hour or, you know, top 10. Maybe not even in the top 35. But you'll have a show. It just won't be quite the same as it was before. Then a couple of new fellas will come along. And pretty soon, a lot of your fans will be flocking around them. And then one day, somebody'll ask: "Whatever happened to, a, whatshisname? You know, the one who was so big. The number-one fella a couple of years ago. He was famous. How can we forget a name like that? Oh by the way, have you seen, a, Barry Mills? I think he's the greatest thing since Will Rogers."

(Mel turns and starts to leave. Then, he turns back towards Lonesome)

Mel Miller: Beanie!

(Beanie, who is manning the automatic appalause machine, instinctively pulls the switch, unleashing a massive abundance of cheers. The machanical jubilation continues as Mel joins Marcia in the waiting elevator, leaving Lonesome alone in the empty penthouse with his broken dreams)
