For legal works look up Gutenburg project, they have a lot of books from the public domain available.
If you are looking to buy PDFs of books, I'm sure there are plenty of websites that offer that as well.

|
Get a Library card from your public library. Most libraries now have internet services where you can log on and request books. Some of the books can be read online. Not to great of a selection at this time, but I'm sure as more people start using this service they will offer more of a selection.

I have a library card, but some of the books I want to read are not at my local library.
