CNN weatherman considers Gore's An Inconvenient Truth fiction
CNN reported on Thursday that a British judge has called Al Gore's Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth unfit for schools "because it is politically biased and contains scientific inaccuracies and sentimental mush." British schools may now have to preface any showing of the film with a warning.

CNN meteorologist Rob Marciano responded to this story by applauding and saying,"Finally, finally," before commenting sarcastically that "the Oscars, they give out awards for fictional films as well."

Marciano said he objected in particular to the film's claim that global warming causes stronger hurricanes, noting that the current hurricane season has only been average.

Although the number of named storms this season has not been unusual, USA Today pointed out last month that "the first two hurricanes in the Atlantic this season reached the highest Category 5 level, the first time that's happened since record-keeping began in 1851." In addition, three storms this year shattered records for speed of intensification, leading concerned weather bloggers to suggest that the possible effects of global warming on hurricanes demand far more intensive study.

3. Not totally proven does not equal fiction
It is near impossible to prove without a doubt but all the signs are there to not discount it.

4. I'm thinking that British judge is
going to be getting some letters concerning his views.

The "storms" are not "An Inconvient Truth"'s point..it's the pollution level that is rising and will be irreversible at a future point in time.

We know what cnn's agenda is..how about the British judge's?

5. He tried quell the masses a bit this a.m.
I heard him say that CNN had been flooded with angry emails. He tried to backtrack a bit, but his tone sounded a bit sarcastic. I didn't catch all of it as I was in another room, but essentially he tried to say he didn't say what he said. Right.

Of course, CNN doesn't get my attention anyway, but again, utter stupidity here. I don't think that An Inconvenient Truth said that certainly there will be stronger hurricanes but it did say that the potential is there so to say that since this year is showing only average hurricane production, the whole thing is fiction is incredibly naive.

10. Meteorologists, in general, have problems with global warming.
I've heard all sorts of meteos. blathering on about how the concept global warming doesn't hold up to scientific scrutiny.

Did they all get together at some conference and say, "this Gore guy is stealing our thunder ... let's trash him at every possbile opportunity"?

But a new study in the journal Nature found that hurricanes and typhoons have become stronger and longer-lasting over the past 30 years. These upswings correlate with a rise in sea surface temperatures.

The duration and strength of hurricanes have increased by about 50 percent over the last three decades, according to study author Kerry Emanuel, a professor of atmospheric science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.

Emanuel's finding defies existing models for measuring storm strength. Current models suggest that the intensity of hurricanes and typhoons should increase by 5 percent for every 1ºC (1.8ºF) rise in sea surface temperature.

"We've had half a degree of warming, so that should have led to a 2.5 percent increase , which is probably not detectable," Emanuel said. "What we've seen is somewhat bigger than that, and we don't really know why."

One possibility, Emanuel said, is that ocean temperatures may be increasing more quickly than atmospheric temperatures.

"When that happens we've shown theoretically you get an increase in the intensity of hurricanes," he said.

AND OCEAN SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURES ARE RISING:
