U.S. recalls over 1/2 million toys over lead levels (New Recalls)
Edited on Thu Oct-04-07 03:33 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - More than half a million toys ranging from key chains to Winnie the Pooh bookmarks and Baby Einstein color blocks are being recalled because of excessive lead levels, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday.

Among the recalled toys, all made in China, were key chains with words like "truth" or "believe" engraved on them that have "high levels" of lead, the commission said in a statement.

Dollar General Merchandising Inc sold 192,000 of the key chains for $1, the CPSC said.

<snip>

The latest recalls were announced as the acting head of the CPSC, Nancy Nord, was to testify at a Senate subcommittee hearing on a bill to reform the agency and require it to take tougher measures to protect children.

1. We got two halloween masks today in the mail. Hubby LOVES
to build halloween props, so these masks were for 'gravejumpers' not anything that people would actually be wearing. They were made in China and stunk to high heaven (the smell made your eyes burn) - not to mention they had gray powder coming off on DH's hands. I told him to makes sure he washed his hands before he ate lunch and to put them in the garage rather than leave the stinky things in the house. BLECH!!!
