Dodd on latest torture memo
"The law is crystal clear - torture is illegal. It is 'abhorrent' that the Bush Administration would publicly disavow torture, while its Office of Legal Counsel is secretly interpreting settled law to reach the opposite conclusion. It is imperative we understand the extent of this deception. The Office of Legal Counsel must release how many other secret opinions they have produced during the Bush Administration that justified violations of the Constitution, federal statutes, the laws of war, and international human rights.

"Congress's Constitutional authority is the power of the purse. And should the Justice Department not comply, I intend to use that authority by drafting legislation defunding the Office of Legal Counsel."

1. My letter to Mitch McConnell Torture
Under the 6th Amendment any treaty signed and ratified becomes the "supreme law of the land." The US has signed and ratified treaties outlawing the use of torture.

Today we find that even after a very conservative Supreme Court came out against the use of torture, Bush has continued using torture against his capitves.

During President Clinton's impeachment you said about Clinton.
"Time after time, the President came to a fork in the road. Time after time, he had the opportunity to choose the noble and honorable path. Time after time, he chose the path of lies and lawlessness--for the simple reason that he did not want to endanger his hold on public office."

Are you willing to speak up against Bush's lies and lawlessness, or were you just playing politics and do not expect your president to be held to the same standards you expect from Democrats.
