I may rant against Hillary, but she has my vote if she is our Dem Nominee!
Ya know, the funny thing is with all our collective justified rants against Hillary and who/what she stands for --- I see little if any movement among the Hillary supporters. They are a loyal bunch with a few very vocal folks in the minority. And they have not done a damn thing to shift my view either. Yet I admire their staying power.

It is so tempting to repeat the usual talking points on why I don't trust Hillary; but I won't go there. I mean, don't we have ALL the talking points on both sides of the Hillary candidacy memorized by now?

This post is simply to declare that though I will fight like hell for Dennis Kucinich (see footnote below); if after all the delegates have their vote at the Democratic Convention in Denver next August, if Hillary Clinton is the last one standing - she has my vote. My disdain and disgust for BushCo and his rethug minions far surpasses that of my dislike for Hillary.

It's funny folks, I believe that most of our most fervent detractors, antagonists, or argue buddies regarding the Hillary debate will fall by the wayside when we look into the eyes of a common enemy. After we see who the rethugs select to continue their lock-step march down insanity lane, we will close ranks and fight to defeat the likes of Rudy, Mitt, John, or Fred.

I really believe DU will come together after the convention!

And after we know what's up in August, if you still absolutely refuse to vote for the Democratic nominee; I respectfully suggest that you move on and not use DU bandwidth. There is no good reason to eat our own after our Dem Nominee for President is set. By then, conservation of energy will be a must and the ONLY battles I want to fight are against the GOP.

But between now and then, my gloves are off (though my knuckles are getting a little sore). Ain't Democracy grand! :kick:

footnote: I will fight like hell for DK minus one thing....an Al Gore entrance miracle. Al is the ONLY candidate I'd trade my Kucinich vote for!

peace~ :)

of people here at DU.

I'm supporting Hillary. Have been since before Day 1 for her. But I don't care if the convention next year nominates a yellow dog because it will have my vote along with everyone else that's included with the one lever, or one touch or one punch hole or whatever the hell it is you do to vote a straight ticket.

4. Of course 95 % of Dems that actually vote will vote for her.
She knows that & that is why she is trying to appeal to Moderate Repugs & Swing Voters with her policy statements.

What Dems can do is vote for '08 Senate & House Candidates that come closest to what they want their Congress person to represent, meaning vote against any Incumbents that have not represented them as they should have.

3. "Al is the ONLY candidate I'd trade my Kucinich vote for"
I couldn't agree more, and - like you - if Senator Inevitable actually gets the nom, she gets my vote, and whatever problems I have with that are too bad for me, I guess.

Good post.

Yea I know, wishful thinking....

Regarding your reference, how about Senator inevitably beatable instead?

Though if not, well...I'll still be here.

And out there next fall working to put a Democrat in the WH!

Glad you will be too JeffR :hi:

11. Thank you RiverStone
I'm one of those Hillary people and I'd like to remind people of DU 4 years ago.

I was a serious Deaniac. Couldn't stand Kerry. Made some awesome artwork using his lovely face too.

I am first and foremost and always a Democrat born.

The day Kerry took out Dean, and I do still believe it was Karl Rove's best work, the day Dean withdrew I put a Kerry sticker on my car and started fund raising for JK.

I remember thinking that if I waited I'd find all sorts of excuses not to get involved so I sucked it up, took down my anti-Kerry artwork off the web and got to work. That's the only way WE can win. We all must be in this together.

Did I mention that I raised over 5K for JK off this very site. DUers came through big time and in the end they may fight and cry and scream but in the end this is after all the Democratic Underground.

13. If Hilary's the worst we can do
We're still in pretty good shape.

She's a damn sight better than Giuliani, for instance. Or Romney or that Law and Order guy. Is she my first primary choice? No. But what difference does THAT make?

It's just a PRIMARY. It ain't the actual election, yet. And DU's been through primaries before, and come out stronger -- just like the Democratic Party.

19. Is she the BEST we can do?
Is the presidency doomed to cycles of Bush and Clinton now? I personally don't like having Hillary rammed up my ass, which is what it feels like. If she gets the nomination I might write my own name on the ballot, but she will not get my vote. ENOUGH OF THE SAME OLD SHIT!

20. Probably, yes.

It seems likely that, after the Democratic primary, Hillary Clinton will be the best option available in 2008.

If you really can't distinguish between her and "the same old shit" then I suggest you pay more attention.

14. I wish I could be as supportive as you. I can't do it. I keep hoping I will be able to
vote for her if she is the nominee but I doubt it. The Kyl/Lieberman vote was the last straw.I used to admire her but the more I have learned about the Clintons the less I like. She now represents everything that I feel is wrong with politics and I do not want to support that "status quo".I am not a naive newcomer. I have been at this for a long time.I have followed politics closely since 1972 and I have never known a Democratic candidate that I would not vote for till now. I am not sure I can vote for her. It is very sad .This will be the first Presidential election of my voting lifetime in which I will not vote for the President if it comes down to this. Maybe things will change for me.I hope so but more than anything I hope she is not the nominee.

15. Instead of not voting one can write in their own Candidate.
It may not garner your Candidate being elected but it may make you feel better.

25. If the other guy *is* elected, I won't feel any better
So I'll vote accordingly.

A vote *against* can be just as useful as a vote *for*.

If they ran someone against Hitler, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be too picky about whom to support from the opposition.

24. you may change your mind...
When you look into the evil eyes of the alternative. Of course saracat, I totally share you hope that HRC is NOT the nominee. And I have posted my extreme disgust and disappointment not only with Kyle-Lieberman, but the complicit nature of most of our Dems on The Hill with giving Shrub a 92-3 vote to keep his insane war going.

Yet as angry as I get --- 08 is NOT the time to vote 3rd party. If we end up with Hillary back in the White House, maybe then pondering a new and true progressive party makes sense -but that is down the road AFTER we control the Exec. branch. The end game is all my ranting against Hillary has changed few if any minds on DU, besides We are the GOOD guys.

The people that need to change their vote for her don't frequent DU.

As much as I hope she is not our nominee, my guess is when you hear the righteous bullshit that the rethug nominee spews out --- you will be sooooooooooo pissed that it will override your NO vote on HRC. Let me tell ya, Hillary may be a disingenuous pandering politician in bed with the DLC; but Fred, Mitt, Rudy, or John could bring us into another war and simply abandon a huge segment of our society. Even worse - they will appoint a judge on SCOTUS that may cause us to lose choice and many other issues for the next generation. My guess, you will chose a lessor of two evils - and one is far more evil then the other. But what do I know eh?

peace~ :)

23. I'm really hoping she won't be on the ballot at all, but...
I've expressed here and elsewhere on DU that not only do I support DK, but I would put most of the other candidates ahead of her.

However, my commitment is to go DEM regardless in the General; and if that means a vote for Hillary - then I'll just have to deal with that. I'd love it to be Gore or Kucinich, and second to that I'd be happy with Obama or Edwards; but ultimately a far greater evil then Hillary is allowing a puke to return to the White House.

I'm not buying on the Hillary hype via the MSM, yet there comes a point where we all have to chose between supporting the Party in the General at large, or moving on. I will not rage against Hillary beyond next August because in the BIG picture, I want DEMS in control a hell of a lot more then rethugs.
