Maybe these lead-infested toys from China aren't a bad thing
Perhaps they will give many an opportunity to reflect on our incessant need for bright and shiny material things.
I went to the Goodwill the other day, and even the Goodwill pulled all of the toys off of the shelf.
This is something that has encompassed both Republicans and Democrats.
Even my Republican friends are standing up and taking notice.

1. And it might enrage people enough to want to make stuff here again,
and be willing to pay an extra four cents for something to have it made in America.

3. I had that exact conversation with the manager at the Goodwill
this wouldn't be an issue if the toys were made here.
But the point of contention isn't that American's AREN'T willing to pay a little more, the point of contention is that the CEO shareholders aren't willing to take a smaller profit.

2. What I hope is that Americans will start demanding that
we start rebuilding our manufacturing sector so we can produce our own shitty products....at least we know that there will be some regulation.

5. Exactly. Where was the quality control?
This problem should have been caught BEFORE any of these toys EVER hit the shelf.

12. Quality control was over when bu$hco,INC. took charge. Under staffed and overworked,
much like the rest of our government oversight. It's that whole make government small enough to drown in a bath tub way of thinking.

6. There has to be a way to bring manufacturing jobs back here. Maybe this is it. nt

7. I was thinking something similar. America's avaricious consumerism
has gotten vastly worse. In the face of war and terror, we are told our only duty is to buy more stuff. Christmas starts in September. And most of these "goods" are coming from china, exacerbating our deficit and promoting unfair labor treatment there, and job loss here. We gotta pull the reins in.

9. And in World War II, we were told "buy less; save; recycle; was that trip necessary?"
Complete opposite of today, that's for sure.

The regulatory agencies need to be cleaned up as well no matter where the products are produced. Where the ?#@# have they been? All schills for guess who...

10. For those who are anti-choice it certainly is hypocritical of them to support
a President who 1) allows dangerous goods to become toys due to lack of regulation 2) vetoes SCHIP.

11. It's too bad everybody's blaming China...
for something that American companies are responsible for.

13. I don't blame China
As the letter I wrote to Mattel stated, I place 100% of the blame on the corporation, which is why I will not buy their toys again.
