I HATE all repukes
I just can't bring myself to even talk to them anymore

If I know they are a repuke I avoid them

if in the course of conversation I find out they are repukes or voted for the idiot, I just politely end the conversation and walk away.

I do this because I just want to scream

WHAT THE FUCK TO YOU THINK??? HAVE YOU NO SHAME? WHERE IS YOUR BRAIN IN THE BATHROOM STALL WITH CRAIG.

Generally that doesn't bode well with others...

I just can't stand it anymore

Hate and fear spawn all human evil. Hate can be more destructive to the hater than the hatee.

In my opinion.

I can't even talk to them. They sound so ignorant. Perhaps they're really not and they merely pretend to be ignorant, in order to advance their hate-filled ideology.

5. I have a new policy that I permanently started today.
I will, from now on,ignore all trolls. Their comments will be deleted from my Youtube and my Myspace. I will not address them on Huffington or other blogs where the "lurk". I am finished with them all. They are completely irrelevant now. They are over. It is an utter waste of time.

I really think the average American has had enough of the Republicans and the tactics they use to win elections.

8. Well, if hate does something for ya, go for it...
I prefer love as opposed to hate. But that's just me...

But when I talk to people that disagree with me, I debate them. I try to convince them that there can be a better way.

Shunning them is giving up on it all as far as I am concerned.

53. compassionately ...
as you would any demented person. Realize that if he's still a hardcore repuke these days, he has a deep emotional need to believe in them that no amount of debating will ever change. The ones who've wised up
have shut up.

Ask yourself what does your Dad 'lack' that he needs to fill with rightwing BS so badly? Not that you try to change him, but just that you understand his insecurities. We really do have a loss of social solidarity now--maybe he's looking for a support group. Or maybe he likes to ally with those he perceives as strong, since he is not so strong. Or maybe he grew up with authoritarian models of behavior and that makes him comfortable. Or maybe he's just a supporter of corporate greed and corruption...what is he protecting (or hiding?) It helps if you can decide just why he'd ally with such rigid thinkers and see him as he truly is. You don't have to fight about the issues. Just stay firm where you stand. Having a couple of "end-of-conversation" sound-bites may help if he's the type inclined to bait you on rightwing subjects. But throw it out and leave the room. Never do it at the dinner table or where you're locked into hanging around for the answer.

More tips--anytime you mention politics, just do it with a smile. Like you know, implying that "I don't think like you Dad, but that's just the way it is..." My SO's Dad was an Archie Bunker til the day he died. We got so we'd just laugh whenever he'd try one of those baiting one-liners they love to throw out. We'd just act like he'd lost his mind to try that stuff on us. Literally we'd laugh in his face. Had to do it quite a while before he just gave up. For many years, we never got into any kind of debate or long-winded exchange with him. We knew that was useless.

I will do my level best not to fight with papa. Should probably hide the TV, though. The thought of him turning the channel from KO to Bill-O gives me chills!:hi:

56. LOL yeah that would hurt....ouch
maybe the TV can be choked up with various exercise CDs the whole time he's there. These are cheap at big box stores. Really limits conversation I've found. Maybe he'd like to try some belly dancing or exercise ball workouts. He needs to loosen up. :7

One thing I've noticed. Sometimes these grumpy older men just do this bad behavior to get attention.
He should know it would be rude to be at your house and commandeer the TV. Maybe you can 'change the channel' on him first. Ask him for advice on something you really need to know from him...y'know make him feel a little worthwhile to you in other areas. Not every overbearing parent goes along with this, but it can be a way to open up other areas of positive interaction for you both. Be creative. What's he good at? What can he teach you (since his worldview ain't gonna be it)? What could you do together (to make up for what you never will do together).

If Daddo insists on watching Billo over KO you can always plug into DU and escape while he gets his fix. You can get the bits from Olbermann later on computer. He probably knows that changing channels would annoy you. Don't bite.

Keep smiling. But draw a line in the sand, like his buddy Bush. He'll understand.

14. I'm still looking for the word to describe how I feel about Republicans and the others...
... You know, the ones that claim to be "idependent", but you can tell almost instantly that they don't care to be informed, and don't want you to be asking them anything about any aspect of this country, our responsibility in running it (unless it deals with their immediate family or personal home).

I look at these "glad to be uninformed" idiots, then listen to these Republicans that think sound bites entitile them to repeat a truth they can "handle".

They have no shame, because they've carefully used and avoidence of shame technique. They have no intellect because they've joined the crowd that thinks it's not in fashion to be intellectual.

I guess the only way to not scream is if you pretend they are on a movie screen. They fit all the criteria for not being real, so why not look at it that way?

15. Hate is a very strong word. And I am with you!
Here's the thing: the conservative view of the world - the social darwinist, authoritarian, economic fascists that they are - conflicts with my own on the most basic level. I have no conservative friends because I simply can't stand what they stand for. I have no interest in attempting to befriend any of them. I don't think there will ever be any 'harmony' between progressive thinkers and conservative ones. I think confrontation is all we have to look forward to so long as we live in a social and economic structure that permits the existance of a class of wealthy elites who are able to influence the masses through their media and madison avenue propaganda machine and a mass of slow-witted zombies who rush their defense with Stockholm Syndrome like fervor. In short, this is a class war and there are only two sides. Pick one.

44. That is an enormous fallacy of reason.
Actually you've committed two sins of fallacy. Bifurcation (black and white) and composition (assuming a part extends to the whole).

It's the same kind of fallacy of reason that suggests liberals and progressives

a) all hate America
b) all want to take away everyones guns
c) want to force your children to be homosexuals
d) want to give federal funding to PETA and Greenpeace.

etc, etc, so on.

Not all Republicans are assholes, and calling them assholes, won't really help win them over to voting with our side. Some of them are quite torn, especially now. Some of them were just jumping on the bandwagon, and now they're beginning to notice all the rats.

Republican leaders are, for the most part assholes.
Republican talk whore/media whores are definitely assholes.
My staunchly (R) BIL is definitely an asshole, but my uneducated SIL, my simple and confused neighbor and my very elderly, Republican by default but not by heart mother - she is definitely not an asshole.

They are 29% who turn to the right-wing propaganda machine to tell them not only what opinions to hold, but a convenient conservative version of the "facts". You can't talk to them. Two minutes hate has gone 24/7 and they sit around screeching about liberals all day. To the lockstep authoritarians in the 29%, ask them about any issue and they'll tell you that the problem is the liberals.

You really CANNOT talk to them.

60. Ha!
reminds me of one of Keillor's Lake Wobegon stories in which he's telling about a family auctioning off the farm. The wife was a staunch dyed in the wool Democrat and loved to collect things. The husband was a Republican. The wife died and the family was convinced she hung on as long as she did in order to keep her husband from selling off her stash and giving the money to the Republicans. She was famous for saying "I might have married a Republican, but I refuse to be friends with one!"

61. I disklike Republicans intensely, no matter which Party they belong to.
I try not to "hate" anyone, even though it's difficult.

64. The new motto of Liberals: "Hate your opposition"? Sounds like Limbaugh.

65. I just met a mom at a sporting event my kid goes to. We had fun chatting while the kids played
and even exchanged numbers for a play date for our kids. After the event, we walked out to our cars & there was a big ole in your face Bush/Cheney sticker-on the back window, not the bumper-of her car and I was totally floored. I really didn't expect it and now I just don't know how long I will be able to hold my tongue about the thugs she is supporting. The last time this happened-a few years ago-I let another rethug mom have it with both barrels once I found out she was thug. I had held my tongue for a bit knowing she was a rethug, but then one day she went off on democrats and that was it. :nuke:

67. I don't hate them...
I feel towards them the way I'd feel if I encountered a two headed dog with rabis who was loose on a fully packed school yard playground.
