Re: Holding Your Nose And Voting, Theory...
And from what I've been reading, both parties to some great extent, will be doing just that come November 2008...

And in many ways, it will not be much of a new phenomena. Many of us oldsters have been relegated to the, "Oh well, what the Hell!" bleachers, for many a cycle now.

And yes, while I TOTALLY RESENT, anything that looks like a loyalty oath from anybody, at any time, I will probably, with several clothespins on my proboscis, vote for my party's nominee.

Probably...

But I will never grant that, to many here or anywhere else, guarantees of what they ask. There is a very American reality to the privacy of the vote. You can, or do not have to at all, argue out loud about your feelings and philosophies about your franchise. But the reason it is a secret\private matter, should to any student of history be readily apparent. IE... When women were finally afforded the right to their own franchise, how many do you think were forcefully lectured\threatened on how to cast their first free vote? By their husbands, fathers, brothers, and yes...sisters?

Part of the America we have lost, (fill in derision here), is that our franchise is just that, OURS! We can vote for ya, agin ya, or not at all.

I cannot tell you now, or ten months from now how I will vote. I cannot, for a very real reason, please you, acknowledge you, guarantee you... that despite all we've discussed, cursed, and fought about over the last several years, will end up in some sort of victory.

Discuss...

1. At this point the Dems could nominate the Tasmanian Devil
(or my own Pomeranian Devil) and I'd vote for him rather than for any Repug or toss it away in some useless gesture. Of course, I live in a predominately blue state, so my vote won't matter in the slightest, but the principle's the same.
