Iraq MP found at Al Qaeda meeting: US military

BAGHDAD - A member of Iraq’s parliament is in US custody and being questioned after an Iraqi special forces raid on a suspected Al Qaeda meeting, the US military said on Thursday.

A spokesman for the Iraqi parliament said the lawmaker was from the assembly’s main Sunni Arab bloc.

The man was held after a raid in the Sunni Arab town of Sharqat, 260 km (160 miles) northwest of Baghdad, in volatile Salahuddin province on Sept. 29, the US military said in an email in response to queries from Reuters.

“The man being held is one of the 275 members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives,” the military said.

“Officially, he is not considered a ’detainee’ at this time. He is being held for questioning after being found at a suspected Al Qaeda in Iraq meeting during a combined Iraqi Security Forces/Coalition operation,” it said.

4. al Qaeda has a branch in Las Vegas. I have the t-shirt.

They're trying to compete with Hard Rock Cafe, only in reverse. They already have their international presence (wherever the Bush administration needs an excuse to bomb, invade, blockade, or sanction), and they're moving to the US. There's an Al Qaeda Qafe in Baghdad, Kabul, London, Tehran, Madrid, Pyongyang, and Berlin.

Soon there will be Qafes across this country. All across the nation, we'll be seeing Al Qaeda Qafe popping up. As I mentioned, there's one in Las Vegas, Honolulu, Memphis, and Boise. Others are planned in Los Angeles, Colorado Springs, and Provo (Utah). There will be no dancing and no alcohol. Smoking will be allowed where it's still legal. Dress is Mosque casual for the women and business for the men.

It's the latest craze. But call ahead and get your name on the list. You can't get in if you're not on the list.
