Should Bill Richardson drop out of the presidential race and run for Dominici's seat? |
|
Glimpsed a headline in Buzzflash. I'm not advocating or attempting to agitate anyone but it does sound like a pretty good plan.

He's said he doesn't want the job, so I know this is a moot point. But, if he ran for the Senate seat, this would be a gimme Dem. pickup. Without him running, it's more of a battle.

2. I wonder is Richardson would rather be a Senator or in a new Cabinet? |

but to me with my way of thinking and all Richardson would make a great secretary of state though.

I want to get as many dem senate seats as possible and General Wesley Clark would be a great "fallback" candidate for SECSTATE.

5. Senator seems like a demotion from governor |
|
I'd love it if he took Dominici's seat, but from his point of view I don't know why he would do it.

Iowa and New Hampshire. If he performs poorly then he could duck out and run for Senate?

7. He will win the seat so long as he can legally put his name on the ballot. That's the deadline. |
|
I don't know New Mexico's deadline to register as a major party candidate, but Richardson will win this race without trying if he gets in.

He'd have far more influence in the Senate than as governor of a small state.

14. He can't run for another term as governor |
|
which is a real shame. He's been a good one since he's shed much of the DLC dogma that marred his first two years.
However, he is running for President. I don't see him ditching that campaign plus another two and a half years as Governor to go back to Congress, even as a Senator instead of a Rep. He's been there, done that.
I just hope the local party can find someone decent to run, although even if we get another right wing horror into office, he'll be less powerful than Domenici.

he implied strongly that if we re-elected him Gov. he wouldn't run for President, yet here he is....
I'm hoping Udall will run

read where Udall say's "NO", Denish say's "NO", Richardson say's "NO", doesn't leave much of a choice at this time. Wilson say's "yes", and I say "HELL NO" to Wilson.

I'm still pissed at him for breaking that union line his (now ex) wife refused to cross in Boston.
I'd rather see Patricia Madrid run for it...
Gary Johnson, well...I think John Sanchez may run for it before Johnson will....he's pretty ambitious.

17. Should he? Probably not. Do I wish he would? You Bet! |
|
I don't think a Senate run is his best option. I also see his presidential run as more than a bit of a long shot. But we're likely to win the presidency and he's likely to have an White House job in anyone's administration. He's been in Congress before and now that he's also been a governor, I'm not sure the Senate is best for him.
All that said, I can see him winning that seat in a landslide. And that's all good for our side. I'd love for it to happen.

18. Whether Bill runs or not for the Senate seat, it's probably going to be ours anyway. |
|
It would be very hard for a Republican to carry New Mexico in 08. Nothing is a sure bet, but this should be the easiest seat for us to pick up along with Mark Warner in Virginia.
