Poll question: Does a woman removing her bra enhance security?
If a woman is wearing an underwire bra, do you believe that she should have to remove it before passing through a metal detector?

4. They're obviously trying to discourage travel
especially air travel.

A captive population prevented from moving around is easier to control.

Do you think we stay 20 permanently?

Couldn't we combine such security with free breast cancer examinations? Wouldn't that be a win-win?

Removing the bra is not necessary.

I will be happy to personally inspect each and every bra for contraband while they are being worn, thus, no removal is necessary

used to be an anti-establishment act, back in the 60's and 70's.

Now the establishment is requiring it!

Silliness.

16. How did they know it was her bra?
I only saw the tail in of this on CNN. I understand that she was really upset. But if the rule is that you cannot go through the gate as long as you are setting off the metal detector, then you can't go through the gate as long as you are setting off the metal detector. Without her taking it off, how do they KNOW its the bra that is setting it off?

One way or another you want to be able to tell if it's just an underwire or if she is hiding a Derringer. Granted Bonnie Parker probably wouldn't bother with anything so small but not every woman wants to weild a BAR.

29. That would eliminate plastic guns!
As to freedoms?

That is a tradeoff society must determine where to set. How many shootings inside the courthouse are acceptable? The more society is willing to accept the less security is required when entering the building.

28. How would they remedy this
It was a practice among young Spanish males to have metal rods surgical inserted into their penis to improve sexual encounters. I saw an article about this on TV.

Now, since they have Viagra they probably don't need it. But if one of these gentleman goes thur the metal detector and it gets set off how will they resolve it. It has to be removed surgical since it was inserted that way. These type of thing about the bra was ridiculous.

33. I voted "I don't know"
Edited on Fri Oct-05-07 12:09 PM by Tesha
And I really don't.

While I've argued elsewhere that nearly all of this security
is just a big fraud, done for "show" to "prove" that we're
all safer, I can see the other side too.

If a woman trips the metal detector, what exactly do the
security guards do? If they're heavily staffed, I suppose
a matron walks the woman to a secure area and has her remove
the supposed metal-containing object(s) until the subject
can walk though the metal detector without tripping it.
And for metallic implants, the matron essentially has to
wand the woman's naked body, identifying the individual
location(s) of the implants.

Failing to follow this procedure would allow the woman
to blame the metal detector trip on, say, her underwire
bra when in fact she's also carrying a concealed switchblade
knife.

And the real problem comes at typical security checkpoints
that *AREN'T* heavily staffed. Okay, she's tripped the
metal detector and the one (perhaps male) guard has to
deal with the situation. What, *EXACTLY*, should he do?
The only plausable technique that I can see is deny her
access to the secured area and maybe make a few constructive
suggestions as to what might be causing the detector to
trip and what she can do to remedy the situation.

Frankly, I view jails, prisons, and courtrooms as different
that airports and I *REALLY, REALLY* don't want any weapons
getting into jails, prisons, and courtrooms. Unlike airports,
these places are *CHOCK FULL* of known and highly-likely
bad guys who know how to use weapons, standard and improvised.

To wit: Why does it have to be a woman? What if a MAN was wearing a bra?

It could happen, you know.

Make this old lady take off her bra at the airport at your own risk! You'll be yelling, "My eyes! My eyes!"
