I was listening to a conversation yesterday between my boss and ...
a co-worker. Both appear to be very staunch conservatives, and
they were stating that Hillary would not be electable.

Since I've just started working at this company, I felt that I
should hold my tongue. Not to mention that I wouldn't want to
pi$$ off my new boss, but here is what they said that really
shocked me.

They said that Condi Rice would make a good president. In fact
they're curious to know why none of the Rep. presidential
candidates have not tapped her as their VP? Also that she may
be too smart for her own good.

I personally think Condi's a lying idiot, and that she is
currently experiencing the "Peter Principle" job over her head.

How should I respond in the future?
Thanks

2. It depends on whether or not you want to keep that job
If you want to keep it, keep quiet.

If you're on your way out the door, let fly.

4. You can make subtle comments.
As you get to know them. But it's best not to pick a fight if you want to keep your job, I should think.

6. If I Were You
I'd let my co-workers suck up to the boss by echoing his/her positions.

And keep my politics, religion, sexual orientation/activity, and other gory details of my personal life private, out of the workplace. Politely, with a big :).

7. Dr. Condi Rice is a parrot. She was coopted by the Bush admin and only repeats talking points.
Way to start a thread to trash her. Haven't had the opportunity in a while. Thanks agg.

8. My advice: Don't ever discuss politics at work (unless you work with all Democrats.)
I steer away from any political conversations.

I've worked with and for my boss since 1987 and I don't know he votes.

10. Exactly!!
Do not discuss politics or religion in the
workplace. Too volatile for some people to
discuss rationally.

11. In my view it's best not to let Republik types know
They tend to be nasty creatures, especially toward any perceived "out-group." The things I've heard Republiks say about people in their little conversations has always reinforced that for me.

12. don't ever give up what YOUR politics are, but "discuss" it enough to earn their trust
Edited on Fri Oct-05-07 11:44 AM by nashville_brook
ask questions. show interest in their ideas. DRAW THEM OUT. this will feed their narcissism and gain points for you. you won't advance in a company if you don't discuss "grown-up" issues with your bosses.

it's entertaining and easy. there's only one rule: ONLY ASK QUESTIONS AND SHOW INTEREST. don't feel like you owe them a summary of your ideas. your ideas are yours -- they don't deserve them.

then, report back to us in the peanut gallery and enjoy their stupidity w/o endangering your income.

Some of it I found really funny.
This is the second time I'm working for this company.
The first time was during the 2004 election, and political
e-mails were flying all over the place back then. I know I
pi$$ed off alot of co-workers back then. I used to carry an
army recruiting signup form that I copied from their website.
Whenever anyone would debate me about the merits of the
Iraq war, I would send them a link to the Army website or
literally hand them the form I carried with me. Basically
telling them, if you support it, sign up to fight in it.
Not one person signed up. I had 1 person rip the form up in
my face.

I work as a technical contractor, and contracts are really
starting to dry up. The good paying ones anyway.
Yes I like this position. It's a good job. It's in a different
department, and a different building, so nobody here know anyone
from the main building that I may have run across.
The boss is a really a nice, and outgoing person. Gives me
encouragement and is very supportive.
But I bit my lip and kept quiet about my progressive leanings
and that Condi is a complete moron.

14. Tell them that Ron Paul will be their savior - WTF?
Help Ron Paul split the Republican vote, much as Nader has done to the Democrats or maybe a little more like Perot did.
