John Edwards Gets 800% Crowd Turnout in Rural Kentucky |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-05-07 01:08 PM by jsamuel
VIDEO HERE: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x59934As kossack decider06 said last night on Air America: Columbus, Kentucky is so rural, it is an hour away from the nearest McDonald's.
In a town of 229, John Edwards drew a crowd of 1800 people. Now, remember this is one of the most rural areas of the country. That is a 800% turnout. While other candidates have boasted their turnouts in cities like Atlanta and New York, you cannot deny the fact that John Edwards is a Democrat that is appealing to rural voters in a way no other Democratic presidential candidate has in a very long time. 1. Edwards is good. I've always wondered why he hasn't taken off |
|
If I were a betting man, I would have bet on him in 04 and now if it were the beginning of the campaign.

10. My Mom and Dad live in a town with less than 50 people and |
|
most of my Dads friends like Edwards. They feel like he gets it. And this is in a very red County in Eastern Oregon.

really holding my breath for Gore to jump in at this point though. I do think Edwards will make a great president.

In another month I guess I'll have to though. Unless we get some happy news :)
If we don't get Gore though, I'd love to have Edwards as my president.

14. Columbus is less than 175 mi. each from Memphis and St. Louis |
|
Two large urban areas. Not that that's close ... but since KY, TN, and MO are not places that get presidential candidates visiting, this well-promoted visit could well have attracted supporters from these close neighboring states.
Columbus was picked as the place he'd visit in an online contest ... so one presumes a lot of Edwards supporters were eager to make the several-hour drive, in addition to surrounding residents, curious to see a real-live presidential candidate. It was a gimmick however: a contest .

Honestly, I like Edwards, I do, and I don't doubt his appeal.
But 800% of what? The tiny town? Did they prevent people coming from other towns? Why do the campaigns have to resort to these sorts of bullshit numbers and irrational statements. It just irritates the hell out of me because John Edwards seems to me to be a straight shooting honest and smart guy, but the headline drips of political crap.
Clinton, KY is about 15 minutes from Columbus...population approximately 14. Arlington, Ky is about 10 minutes away. Add in 400 more. Bardwell, KY is 20 minutes away. Add in 800 more.
Yeah it's a rural area, but how far away are people allowed to drive in a rural area (where I'm sure they're used to more than 5 minutes in a car. I grew up in a rural area and we drove an hour each way for my music lessons. My brother in law drives his daughter about the same right now for gymnastics...so I'll use that...People will drive an hour to go to something like this. I would.
Paducah is less than an hour away and there's about 27,000 people there alone.
I don't know how many people really live in reasonable driving distance. Yeah the county is the most rural in the state, and that was a great turnout, but the 800% number smacks of the type of political crapola I hate. It was a great turnout, but the release leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
Bring the Flames.

More power to you. All my love.
I just am sick of the campaigns, not just Edwards....they're all guilty of this crap....putting out meanigless crud or irrational, illogical use of bad statistics.

19. Why so little support here for the next pres J.Edwards? |
|
I do not understand why the posters on DU would support Hillary ,who supports combat in Iraq, and do not support Edwards who has declared he will not support combat there?
Edwards Nothern liberal support AND Southern common sense support.
I vote Edwards/Clark (if Al stays home)...

24. He has the most support here especially if the Kucinich people break their vote up like at a caucus |
|
By far...
The reason why it seems differently is because there are a few supporters for the other campaigns who post over and over and over.
