I was chatting with a couple of Republicans at work this morning...

we were checking out some problems with the movie "In the Valley of Elah". (I work at Warner Bros.).

Anyhow, there is a scene where Susan Sarandon is looking at the remains of her dead son through a window. One rethuglican says, "Oh, man -- she is so ugly! I can't stand to look at her." Our supervisor says to him, "Adam, you just don't like her because of her politics. You want a woman like Ann Coulter." I kind of snicker and the other rethuglican (real right winger, born again type woman) says, "At least Ann Coulter is a beautiful woman."

I said, "A beautiful woman? She looks like a chicken!"

Our supervisor says, "A chicken!! She does look like a chicken!!"

I looked at the right winged woman and she was fuming!

Oh man, I love starting my days like that.

I recall my journalism days back in the early 80's in Northwest Arkansas. A very hot summer and hundreds of thousands of Chickens died in chicken houses from heat exhaustion. Hundreds of thousands of ann coulter's being hauled off by the truck load.

12. I chat pleasantly with my Republican wife and her parents all the time.

They keep saying that I'm a great son-in-law even if I'm a little confused on some matters (said in a joking manner of course)

I respond back in kind.

My wife works for an organization that promotes the importance of volunteering and mentoring at-risk youth. My father in law made sure that in pre-1964 Kansas that the sole black girl in his class was invited to all events and made sure that the senior trip was to a place that would treat her equally. He hated that when his army unit went into town that they were forced to split up by race.

I know from personal experience that not every Republican is a screaming right-wing looney. I also know from my mom's side of the family that some Dems can be just as every bit prejudiced as some Repubs.
