Insightful author interviews
Saturday 9 PM, Sunday 6 PM and 9 PM ET
In The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, Naomi Klein argues that in the wake of natural and manmade devastation economic reform is introduced to benefit investors and free market advocates while taking advantage of moments of collective disorientation. Ms. Klein focuses her criticism on Milton Friedman and the Chicago School of Economics, and presents examples for her argument by profiling the current situations in Iraq and New Orleans. Naomi Klein is interviewed by Franklin Foer, editor of The New Republic and author of How Soccer Explains the World: An Unlikely Theory for Globalization.

Weekend Highlights
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Clarence Thomas, My Grandfather's Son
Radio host and columnist Armstrong Williams hosted a reception to mark the publication of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas' memoir. In this program, viewers get an inside look at a Washington, DC party attended by many of the nation's leading conservatives, including Vice President and Mrs. Cheney, Chief Justice Roberts, and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff. NAACP Chairman Julian Bond also attended.
(Saturday 7 PM and 11 PM, Sunday 8 AM ET)
Bjorn Lomborg, Cool It: The Skeptical Environmentalist's Guide to Global Warming
In his book, Bjorn Lomborg argues that global warming is not a catastrophe but a problem. Mr. Lomborg provides scenarios and solutions to problems associated with global warming. He also discusses some of the issues he views as more of an immediate problem, like malaria, AIDS, and clean water supplies.
(Saturday 9:30 AM, Sunday 4:45 PM ET)
Edwidge Danticat, Brother, I'm Dying
Edwidge Danticat talks about her uncle Joseph, a Baptist minister who took care of her as a child in Haiti. Joseph Danticat fled Haiti in 2004, at the age of 81, and came to the U.S. seeking political asylum. Upon arrival, he was imprisoned by U.S. Homeland Security and died while in custody.
(Saturday 11 AM, Sunday 3 AM ET)
Matthew Brzezinski, Paul Dickson, Gene Eisman, 50th Anniversary of the Sputnik Launch Roundtable Discussion
10. C-span/c-span2/BookTV is practically the only place on tv where one sees some of those folks.
As a typical c-span caller might say, "Thank you for BookTV threads."
11. Interview as debate.
Naomi stood up well to a person more interested in his own opinion than hers. What an awful interviewer.
The guy from The New Republic should also learn to drop all the "you knows", "ums" and "uhs" from his "vocabulary".
She was sharp and on point. He was...well, awful.
Watching the Clarence Thomas book "party" was an exercise in keeping my dinner down.
22. this happens all the time with 'liberal/left' guests. I can't remember EVER
having seen this sort of adversial interview with the myriad wingnut guests they have on
EVER
can anybody recall even one time they had the 'host' giving the guest a hard time?
remember Brian Lamb's book show? the ONLY time I ever saw him go after a guest was when he had Michael Moore, and I used to watch that show every week for years.
24.  See what I mean?
What a round-headed little tool Franky boy is.
Naomi catalogs what everyone paying attention has noticed since 9/11. There are no real "accidents" or mistakes in the disasters BushCo has overseen. DUers have written about how the "incompetence" is by design.
19. i have interviewed him. He won't allow anyone to call him "conservative"
he is simply infuriating and valueless. I am really outraged that Cspan has him on. I hope the callers eviscerate him, but he is impervious to criticism, the ultimate authoritarian blame gamer.
Oh, BTW, I'm 4 feet 10 and I'm taller than him.
Loveya, Viva! you're the best!
