If you win, you earn a lot of it. That's an awful temptation for some.

I had 15 year old kids doing steroids on a National Select (Baseball) Team that I coached.
And that was twelve years ago.

But she managed to grab her integrity on the way down. But you can bet she won't be scootered. Only rich white republicans get to lie to the feds and get away with it. She'll get jail time.

On the steroid question, I don't care what atheletes take. Many things could be called "performance enhancing". How about a protein drink? Gatorade? Even Barry Bonds, if he did take steroids, They were not illegal at the time he took them. Does it matter? Soon coffee will be an illegal stimulent, then chocolate, then........

16. Oh come on. Steroids are dangerous to the athletes. |
|
It's called CHEATING when you take banned substances to gain an advantage over the other athlete who happens to care about their own health.

therefore since as americans and humans we hate and are embittered about a successful technology, we have to punish people who have to guts to modify their bodies to be successful
that's it in a nutshell
a true athlete will do with her body what she must to win
bitter people on the sidelines will grumble because they aren't willing to

13. Yeah, but she lived a hell of a life while she lied about using them |
|
x(
Earning (and spending) over $20 Million in winnings and endorsement deals (and five Olympic medals). Her cheating - cheated the people who played by the rules out of what they could have won and could have earned. I don't have any sympathy for her. She cheated and lied and kept on telling lies until the money and fame ran out.

17. Remember when Ben Johnson was busted for steroids in Olympic 100 m? |
|
Gold-medal marathoner Frank Shorter was talking about steroids and said that steroid use was rampant.
At the same Olympic games, they polled dozens of athletes and asked them if they would take performance enhancing drugs if it would guarantee them a medal but it would also have dire health consequences. It was nearly a unanimous "Yes!" answer. I was pretty shocked.
So, it's the money, but mostly it the satisfaction of succeeding.

18. It's all about "winning" |
|
I read something several years ago. They surveyed athletes:
"If you could take a drug that would make you a world champion, but kill you in 5 years, would you take it?"
A majority of them said yes. Sad.... truly sad.

why was it the lead story on all three network newscasts? It's newsworthy and should have been reported, but the lead freaking story? Damn! OK, carry on.

Somewhere there is an allegory screaming that the current Resident of the Oval office may not be alive in a few years from overusing his political muscles. Who really knows?

Steroids are even giving the sport of boxing a black eye. I think boxing needs a zero tolerance policy.

25. to her credit, she's the first prominent athlete to own up to what everybody already knows |
|
and while she most likely deserves whatever punishments she ends up getting, at least she had the balls (not literally of course) to admit her mistakes.
meanwhile all the other cheaters try the "i didn't take them knowingly" excuse...when it's more than obvious that that's a load of shit

Not only is she not the first prominent athlete to admit steroid use, she only admitted it as part of a guilty plea. She was caught.
On edit: She also claims that she didn't know what it was that she was taking.
